Or a sneaky pete, I know that tool, but I want to avoid buying something for that job.

Lower the crank to remove rear main rope seal?

Hello, I'm currently partly rebuilding the engine from my 1969 Thunderbird. The upper rear main seal is making trouble. Lower was easy, because I just had to remove the cap and than could peel it off. The upper half won't come out at the moment. Easiest way would be to remove the crankshaft...

Motor oil in trans case (NP231)

MTF is also what I was thinking of for a moment. Unfortunately my can was nearly empty. I've chosen Type F fluid now. Thanks for all your great replies so far.

Motor oil in trans case (NP231)

Hello, is there any valid reason why I shouldn't fill some 15W40 dino oil in my NP231? Those t-cases are super simple whith a chain and some gears. I read they basically just need ANY lubrication. What about some Type F fluid? Those two are what I have on hand and I need to fill it tomorrow...

Lowering vehicle with alternative coil springs

As you can see, it´s not only ride height what I was looking at. Spring rates are pretty much comparable to stock. I also have the Ford Specifications sheet and tried to stay at similar rates.

Lowering vehicle with alternative coil springs

I´m looking for a way to lower my Tbird. Moog has this great list of all their springs. Rockauto lists part # 8314 for front and 8545 for rear application. The original Ford Specifications form says a front weight of 2495lb and rear weight of 2034lb for my vehicle. I made a Excel Sheet with...

Help fix engine rattle under load | Tbird 69 429ci

I didn´t have the chance to check anything yet. Just filled it with race fuel and it ran pretty good. I have to check it for some more miles though. But before I can proceed I have to fix another problem. Yesterday my Purolator fuel filter broke into pieces after only 100mls and I had fuel all...

Help fix engine rattle under load | Tbird 69 429ci

Wow, so many answers! This community is simply amazing. I will start with a tank of high octane fuel. Like dnastrau said, our octane numbers are calculated differently. I always filled it with 95 octane fuel yet, which conforms to ~91 octane in the US. The highest I will get here is something...

Help fix engine rattle under load | Tbird 69 429ci

Hello, I'm a 69 Tbird 429cui driver from Germany. Ford 385 engines (and Big Blocks in general) are rare over here, so it's hard to find qualified help. My engine rattles pretty loud under load. Moreover it flares a lot of (probably bluish) smoke from the exhaust, when quickly pushing the pedal...

Which oil for C6 trans in 69 Tbird?

Thanks a lot for all you responses. So Type F will be what I will fill in there. How much will it need with and without torque converter?

Which oil for C6 trans in 69 Tbird?

I just purchased a beautiful Ford Thunderbird Tudor Hardtop from 1969. Now I´m about to change engine and transmission fluids and other parts that need maintenance from time to time. I´m not sure what to fill in the C6 transmission. I already read something about Type F. Or should I use Dexron...

Use Dana 44HD open Spider Gears instead trac loc?

Alright, thank you! Would you still drive with those pieces missing in the spider gears? Currently I'm unsure whether I should replace gears with new ones, buy a used Dana 44 (check if it's okay first) or keep on driving with those spider gears and save the money (probably for the trans viscous...

Use Dana 44HD open Spider Gears instead trac loc?

Hello, is it possible to simply replace the spider gears from a Dana 44HD trac loc in a ´97 ZJ with open diff spider gears? To specify it a little more.. using this kit instead of this one without further changes?! Thanks and kind regards.

Friction Modifier needed if track lock defective?

What do you mean by "chattering"? I can´t find a word that makes sense in this context, when translating it into german. Thanks.

Friction Modifier needed if track lock defective?

Hello, the track lock in my Dana 44A rear axle seems to be gone/not working anymore. Do I still need to fill the Friction Modifier in there? Thanks and kind regards.
