    HVAC Insiders- Daikin & Goodman

I'm a very occasional BITOG poster, but I might have "stumbled" on this thread at the perfect time. I'm not an "HVAC Insider," but I'm having an 1,100 sq. foot manufactured home installed right now. I'm in Bullhead City, AZ, across the Colorado River from Laughlin, NV, where it gets to 115°...

Electrical outlet wrapped in electrical tape

I've always wrapped the connections in a metal box. I'm just a DIY, but it's good protection.

Is there such a thing as an unreliable U.S. new car today?

I have a 2013 Ford Focus, 260k miles on it, stick. A few irritating things, but, overall, it's worked well. The Focus might still be around today if it wasn't for huge problems with their DCT.

    Should I replace this dishwasher?

I'll 2nd what Leo99 said. Government regulations issued about 10 years ago have made newer dishwashers significantly less efficient. A court case, maybe last month, may have finally voided them, but, even if it is upheld, it will be a year or 2 before more efficient ones are back on the market.

How much does a 25 mph headwind matter?

Coming across the California desert on I40 from Arizona, with a 20MPH headwind pretty much straight on, vs. coming home to AZ with a tailwind, I'm always getting a 4-5 MPG differential.

Someone tried to scam my son tonight

I agree. "Mental illness" is simply an excuse today.

Car donation, do i need to file itemised tax?

This post is correct. Unless there's a minimum on this rule, which I'm not going to bother to look up. There's other issues as has been pointed out that the Standard Deduction was raised in 201 or 2018, and a $150 or $600 isn't going to matter unless you've got a loan on your home. Mike...

Prices dropped a dime this week in Bullhead City, Arizona.

    Stanley Cup Final Series

There's an article in today's Las Vegas Review Journal, front page... The books stand to lose a lot of $$ if the Golden Knights win, but the books are still supporting their local team...

Where to buy tires, dealer or costco etc

I used Costco in Sanat Clarita, CA, for, maybe 4 sets of auto tires. Last set only went 60k miles... I normally go 75-80k. Went to Discount Tire (California company) and got a much better deal. Now I'm in Arizona, the Discount Tire in Bullhead City (which might be America's Tire in CA?) was $60...

New furnace required - advice welcomed

Costco 90% of the time. I'm in the middle of moving from Southern Cal, to Bullhead City, AZ, where there is no Costco, but there are Smith's (Kroger). I see no difference in performance on my return trips across the desert. The gas in Bullhead City comes from either the So Cal, or Utah...

    Dishwasher Recommendations

I've had an Electrolux for 5 years with NO problems. Works great. With the sanitize cycle, you don't need a heated dry.

FedEx Corp has severed its relationship with one their largest Ground delivery contractor effective immediately

They've never integrated "the last mile" & the "first mile" for air & ground. Has it been 10 years? 20? Not a sign of a well-run company.

200,000 miles is in fact rare, only 1% of vehicles reach it

+1. I've driven 4 Chrysler cars for 350k+ each, and now my Ford Focus (manual, not the DCT) with 235k+, and I put more work into my VW Bug that I drove in college in the early 70's (and put 200k on it) than I have on any of my other cars.

200,000 miles is in fact rare, only 1% of vehicles reach it

I'd sell you my 2013 with 235k on it, (Southern Cal), but I wouldn't part with it, since it's probably the last manual I'll own. Ford shot themselves in the foot with the "automatic." My engine is strong, but the evap system shows the same "engineering" as the auto... let the customer do the...

    19 Year Old GE Fridge

I replaced a 13 year old Frigidaire that was 12 years old when I moved in. Replaced it with the same model. Had no idea how it had been maintained. Pre-Pandemic, Lowes had crazy sales around Memorial Day and Thanksgiving. As DishDude says, replace it now while you have time to shop. I'd go into...

    Cruze vs Focus

I have a 2013 Focus manual with 230k+ miles on it. I'm very happy with it. At the dealer's the other day for a recall... he was surprised to see a stick. Said they had several Focus's in there with the DTC that had been out-of-service for several months awaiting parts. Really sad how Ford...

    Here comes Medicare

I'm using Humana and A&B, and I don't pay anything extra except for a colonoscopy ($50) and 1/3 of the shingles shot ($75). One of the local HMOs here in SoCal does a seminar every November where the various insurance companies talk about their changes for the next year. I'd keep an eye out for...
