    How common are ammo issues/misfires?

Anecdotally of course, I have had issues only with rimfire ammo, including CCI. Had a misfire in a range, rangemaster comes over with a wooden dowel to push the .22LR cartridge out the back, and says, "Wow, I have never seen that before with CCI ammo". Good to know how to react when you squeeze...

Horn Stopped Working / Relay Question

Can't help you.... but your topic reminds me of a bumper sticker: "Horn not working.... check for finger"

    Anyone else wash their lugnuts?

What a great topic! I use two pieces from my Craftsman 48-piece Master Thread Restorer Kit; I use a tap to clean the threads of the lug nuts, and I use a die to clean the threads of the wheel studs. Gets the crud out, and fixes any thread deformities!

    iron fence repair

I had parts of my iron fence rust through due to sprinkler overspray. Folks suggested welding... which in retrospect probably would have been less labor. In large part because I already had it.... I ended up using Bondo. In the sections where the iron fence was completely missing, I used a...

    Direct TV Genie

When I first turn on my HR34 (so that all the front-panel lights are on), there is no playback history. If I leave the HR34 on, a 90-minute playback history is maintained. So your observation matches mine. Yeah, it's annoying.

    Importance of keeping TBN High

Thanks for the Machinery Lubrication link in the initial post. They mention points when TBN reaches 5.5-6, and TBN/TAN crossover around 3.5. Not sure why one would consider waiting until TBN drops to 1. Anyway, this allows me to better interpret the TBN shown on my Wix UOA reports.

    Crush washers

This is actually how I started down my DIY and BITOG path: Many years ago, I paid for an oil change at Jiffy Lube, where of course, they re-used the crush washer on my Acura Integra. Which started a slow drip. From changing oil in relatives' cars, Hondas have thick and soft aluminum washers...

    AT&T is ridiculous

At least in the past couple years, I have updated my AT&T service either online via the website, or the myAT&T app on my smartphone. You immediately see the changes (and price difference) you are about to make.... and no talking to a person!

    Conceal Carry/Workplace dilemma

We have a sign in our lobby: "No firearms allowed beyond this point." We always thought this meant that visitors are supposed to check in firearms with the receptionist when they sign in for their visitor badges. It's an interesting OP.... You might want to ask HR what the policy is on firearms...

    Roush Motor Oil

I remember answering a Valvoline online survey, where they asked questions like: Which would you prefer? - "Valvoline oil endorsed by Roush" - "Valvoline Roush oil" - "Roush oil by Valvoline" - "Roush Valvoline oil" I never saw any benefit tying in with Roush....

    CV Grease Replacement?

Do a search for "CV grease" at autozone.com. $1.99 for a 3oz package. One package is plenty for one CV boot in my Acura. Good luck!

How to properly gauge drag with a feeler gauge?

With the danger of repeating what others have said.... In my Acura, for example, the intake valve clearance is spec'd at 0.006 -- 0.007 in. [Make sure you have the spec'd values for her engine, found either in the service manual, or on a sticker on the bottom surface of the hood.] I adjust so...

    Speed Bleeder screws

An awesome product that enables one-person bleeding. I have the appropriate-sized reversible ratcheting wrench that I dedicate to the speed bleeders, a la: GearWrench at amazon.com Slip on wrench, slip on tubing, loosen, bleed, tighten, remove tubing, remove wrench.

Is There a Specific Tool to Test Belt Tension

Google Krikit, or belt tension gauge. The Krikit works OK if you have access to the midpoint of the belt. Align, press down until it clicks, then read it without jostling the lever. I would think experienced mechanics would go simply by feel.

Replace or resurface warped brake rotors?

New front brake rotors can be found for about $18-20 for my FWD passenger car. So paying $18 for resurfacing just doesn't make sense. As far as quality, blank rotors from Kragen or AutoZone are just fine, based on personal experience after reading BITOG-like car forums. Good luck!
