Is Castrol 5w40 a Group III oil?

I picked up 4 qts of the Made in USA oil. Double-checking the MSDS sheet from Castrol - it says "highly refined base oil". Group III it is :) After the rinse I'll be switching back to synthetics, probably Redline 5w40 or the new Royal Purple 5w40, depending on what I can purchase locally.

Is Castrol 5w40 a Group III oil?

It's a matter of availability. The nearest Walmart for the Rotella is a 45-min round trip from work, and the Castrol is sold in-town at an Autozone.

Is Castrol 5w40 a Group III oil?

I understand that the Castrol 5w40 is usually from Belgium. Is this a Group III oil? What about the US-sourced stuff, is that even available? I need a good rinse oil for the AutoRX cycle in my Saab 9-5, and this one meets the ACEA A3/B3 spec. I am using Kendall 5w40 right now for the cleaning...

Specialty Formulations ATF, Saab 9-5, 15k miles

Thanks for chiming in Molakule! This ATF made the transmission shift beautifully and I'm pretty bummed I didn't stock up. Same with my old Subaru, the Autoglide was a vast improvement over the bulk dino fluid used after its transmission was rebuilt. Benjamming: No, I didn't pay extra for the...

Specialty Formulations ATF, Saab 9-5, 15k miles

The RH column is for the factory fill at 60k miles, the LH column is at 75k miles total on the car, with 15k miles on the new ATF. The drain plug was cleaned. I have no idea what the starting point of the Autoglide is, and since SF is no longer in business it's likely to remain a mystery...

Specialty Formulations ATF, Saab 9-5, 15k miles

This is a followup to a past UOA: 60k ATF UOA The car is a 2001 Saab 9-5 with an Aisin-Warner 4-speed automatic transmission. The owner's manual calls for a single drain/fill at 60k miles. As the UOA shows, the ATF was pretty shot by then, so I did 3 drain/fills with the Specialty Formulations...

Other than Honda Fluid for 2001 Acura TL

Since I've asked the same question in the past for my '03 Odyssey, what I've found is that Amsoil Universal ATF seems to work well for people. Royal Purple has changed their MaxGear ATF from Dex-III to "Multi-vehicle" and now lists Z1 as an application for it, although I have no experience with...

Where to buy Kendall or Rotella 5w40?

Thanks everyone! It looks like Walmart it is. It's out of the way so I never think to go there.

Where to buy Kendall or Rotella 5w40?

Thanks RI_RS4. I just called 2 nearby NAPA stores and all they have is the Rotella 15w40. I suspect the Schaeffer's 5w40 would do fine as well, that's a group 3 & 4 blend if memory serves.

Where to buy Kendall or Rotella 5w40?

I just had my '01 Saab 9-5's engine fixed with Saab's latest and greatest PCV system update. The original PCV tubing was getting pretty gummed up, so I'm thinking of doing an Auto-RX run for good measure. Auto-RX recommends dino oil, and I'd like to stay with the ACEA A3/B3 oils to maintain my...

    How does one become "non-hypertensive"?

If you want to cure hypertension, well, judging from your description of yourself, try the classic cure: eat right, exercise, and lose weight (via the "eat less, move more" method). Worked for me, and is an ongoing process, and I've never been one of those skinny little guys. My preferred...

    Honda ATF Z1 replacement

Since Specialty Formulations is on hiatus, my plan on using their Autoglide Z1 for my '03 Honda Odyssey is up in smoke. Due to the demands of this tranny on the Honda Z1 ATF, I'd like to use something full-synthetic. What other full-synth options are there? From what I gather, I have a few...

    Status of Specialty Formulations

Best of luck to you Molakule, my Saab has been running Autoglide in its tranny for 2 years with no trouble. I was going to order some Z1-formulated Autoglide next month

tire brands you will/wont buy again?

Does Nokian make a bad tire? I don't think so. I've used their WR, RSI, and just bought a set of the i3's. Next summer I plan on a set of NRZ tires for my Saab to replace the Avon M500's I use now. The Continental TS810 performance snow is on my short list for future purchases too. The only...

    Anyone try the Nokian i3?

I've got them installed now. I went for the H-rated over the T-rated. The ride is fairly firm but the handling is crisp - infinitely better than the Cooper Classic II's the van came with last summer. They seem pretty quiet, and I'm now waiting for rainy weather to see how they do in the wet.

    Anyone try the Nokian i3?

I am planning on installing a set of Nokian i3's on my '03 Honda Odyssey this weekend. I've had stellar experience with Nokian WR and RSI snow tires, and the i3 is meant to be the minivan's 3-season tire. I plan on the H-rated version. Anyone try these tires? My main concern is traction and...

    GC Gold 0w30 - 4,998 mi - 2001 SAAB 9-5 2.3L LPT

I have the identical car (in wagon form), and GC also did splendidly in a UOA I have posted here. However, due to Autozone's phasing out of GC, I will be moving on to Redline 5w30 instead...

    no GC at autozone...

It looks like I'll have a choice between the Castrol 5w-40 or M1 0w-40 for my car, in terms of easy-to-get oils. Either one should work fine. The local specialty shop that sold Redline is out of business, so my plan to switch to Redline 5w30 is on hold unless I do some mail ordering.
