Aluminum readings from Ford 4.6 and 5.4 engines

I don't post here much anymore, but I wanted to bring something up that I have learned well enough now. For those debating the aluminum readings in oil samples from Ford 4.6 and 5.4 engines, it has been 99.999% proved to me that it is not the crank bearings, it is the cam bores in the heads. I...

Part# for FL1A style filter without an antidrain back valve?

Does anyone have a part# handy for an FL1A style filter without an antidrain back valve? Size doesn't matter as long as no antidrain back valve and it can mount to a remote filter mount intended for FL1A/PH8A.

Slightly used oil better for race engine?

Hey guys, check out the findings in this other link: Oil catch can What a couple of us are noticing is that fresh oil "might" seem to aerate more than oil with say 1K of street miles. A couple of us with PCV catch cans are noticing that after an oil change is when we get the greatest amount...

    Appears lowered blowby with VSOT

After playing around with VSOT, I have noticed that it seems to really work on engines with blowby. I have a 440 Mopar (actualy a couple) but one of them was a cheapo rebuild at 80K miles with new rings and bearings by the prior owner. I drove this car about 15K miles now, and learned to deal...

    CD-2 Street Legal Oil Boost

Anyone ever test this stuff? Noticed it at Big Lots today, states it has 4x the friction modifier and anti-wear additives than an SL rated oil. Comes in a 16oz pink bottle and appears to be about a 50W for $1.99.

    Too much moly?

At what point is there too much moly? Looking at trying a mix of mainly Havoline 5W20 with Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatment (and a quart of Mobil 1 5W20, and a couple ounces of ARX, a witches brew so to speak) BTW - please don't say at the point the oil becomes a solid

Nicks Witches Brew for Cleaning Ring Packs

Take one full bottle Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatment, add 10 ounces of Auto RX, top off with ~4.5 quarts of Mobil 1 5W20. I ran this for ~3000 miles now, my oil burning and consumption stopped - completely. I have not added oil in the last 2000 miles now at all, normally about 1/2~3/4 quart...

Moron = Moly + Boron (Valvoline Synpower)

Just tried the Valvoline Synpower and am finding some significant increases in fuel economy. Anyone else find this?

    Mobil 1 5W20 vs Delo400 15/40 in a 4.6 Ford

Been using Delo in my 4.6 for last 1500 miles of an ARX clean stage. Changed to Mobil 1 5W20, the new SM stuff thanks to the Pepboys coupons. Immediately the engine became silent, it kinda freeked me out. There was a small ticking that sounded lifter related, gone with new oil immediately...

    Delo 15W40 in a Ford 4.6

Changed the oil in my Ford 4.6, I have been vocal about believing 5W20 is fine for these, but its summertime here in Florida and figure I can give straight Delo 15W40 a try and dump if not happy. I am very open to changing my view if proof is given on anything. So far no change in gas mileage...

Possible evidence bypass valve closed at 3000RPM on cold 15W40 oil

Just installed a new hotrod 460 into my friend's truck. As usual alot of stuff with him is last minute and rushed, so had no time to do a proper mock up. Rockers he had were Chevy BB roller tips that would work find with about a 0.050" shorter pushrod I imagine, but of course didn't have and he...

    Powerservice oil extender

Just posted a VOA on this stuff in the virgin section for anyone interested. It appears to be a 50W with double the additives of regular 15W40.

UOA between different engines and break in

Hmmmm, this caught my eye, "borrowed" this post from another topic here. As an engine builder I don't see what a UOA would show with respect to engine break in, because you don't know if the wear metals came from the wrong place or not. But what really got me thinking is, doesn't the Honda have...

Calling all Ford 4.6 engine owners

Picked up a 97 Cougar with the 4.6 and 120K miles, the sweet Anniversary edition, near mint condition cosmetically, but blowing some oil smoke out the exhaust. I am an engine man so no problem, get a low mileage all aluminum version with the better heads, spend about 40 hours grinding, tweeking...

    K+N 225,000 miles - real life

Been reading a bit here and IMHO see alot of problems to be honest. First issue is that cleaning a K+N is usually the last thing you want to do, they work better slightly dirty, thats a proven fact. Also with all the talk about paper filters, just how good are the paper filters after they get...
