1965 Bolens 1000 with 36" snowblower. 87 octane and 10W40 in the 13hp Lifan in it.

These 42RLE are garbage. FWD trans flipped around.

The 13hp Lifan I have in a 65 Bolens says every 100hrs too.

I'm a golf course mechanic. 2 Kohler command 18s were pretty tired at 4500 hours. One Lifan GX270 running strong at 1800 hours. Kawasaki FE290 that ran like new at 3800 hours. B&S Vanguards are 1000-1500 hour throw away engines.

They are great tractors.

Here's my 1965 Bolens 1000. It's my workhorse around my property. I repowered it last year with a Lifan GX390 13hp. 3 speed iron transmission with hi/lo and worm drive differential which is lockable. I have a 42" mower, 36" snowblower, 22" tiller, and 42" blade for it.

Same with Bolens. Obsorbed by MTD and is now a Lowes special. At least MTD kept the IH design for a few years and nice to see them still offer a shaft drive.

Awesome tractors. I have a 100 I used for pulling. My current workhorse is this 1965 Bolens 1000. I Repowered it a Lifan GX390.

I have a lot of respect for cuban mechanics. I believe modern oils have a lot to do with it. I remember my dad telling me that at 100,000 miles a car was done and worn out in the 70s. I own a 1966 Dodge Polara which was bought from the original owner with a 383 that just hit 90,000 miles. 74,xxx...

Does anybody know who makes the FVP (Factory Motor Parts) synthetic oil? Thanks.

MSDS says Citgo for most of it.

For everyone who's interested I got the new rings in. Breaking them in on SAE 30. What's the thought on running synthetic oil in a 51 year old engine? I'm thinking about T6 for it.

I got new rings ordered. Had a 1/4"+ ring gap. Should be back together next week.

Just a got a 1965 Bolens 1000 with a Wisconsin TR10D cast iron monster. I changed the oil with SAE 30 and a splash of MMO and after about 10 hours run time it's black as coal. It smokes a bit out the breather and exhaust but the spark plug is a perfect tan with no oil on it. Would 15W40 be ok...
