Does new GTX still leave varnish if used for long periods?

i meant castrol GTX manufactured since '01, standard white bottle. i read somewhere that "old" gtx left some discoloration in the valvetrain as well as on the dipstick if used for years and years. i was now wondering if GTX has been reformulated (now with sythetic guard?).

thank you sir pitzel...i checked the link, guess i'll have to educate myself a little more as i;ve no idea what cST means (yet). your suggestion that it's ok to mix is also a a relief, cause i already mixed it couple hours ago...hehe. seen some of the threads by the mixologists too, but not...

havoline dex-cool in a 1st Gen CRV Honda

i've already put it in as a replacement for the usual green honda coolant, which had run for the last 40,000 km. now prior to changing coolant, my coolant temp used to read normal. there's a small, wave like drawing in the temp gauge and the needle always ran at or below that wave. now it's...

best dino to leave in for 10,000 kms?

sorry, forgot to mention, i used mobil1 as an example because all (and i mean ALL) fully synthetics marketed here follow the same price per quart, give or take a peso or two. there are no $1.45 per quart mobil1 sales here for any synthetic. think about it. with the 5k i save i can buy: new...

best dino to leave in for 10,000 kms?

fellas, like i said, cost is a paramount issue here. i'm not planning to totally neglect the car, just run a good, cheap oil until rebuild time comes around. if you factor in the cost of replacing essential parts that will keep the vehicle running over the next 40,000 kilometers or so (parts...

aha! yes i am familiar with Delo...we even have the monograde type available here in southeast asia. diesel heavy duty oil in an abused civic engine...why didn't i think of that? mobil ep oils aren't available here (yet), although mobil1 is common. mr toyota, is gtx strong enough to hold its...

best dino to leave in for 10,000 kms?

my sister's beater - a 96 civic automatic with a 1.5 non-vtec engine, needs a good dino, if there are any good enough, to last her until 10,000 kms, or 1 year of driving in mixed conditions. this car is abused and gets virtually no maintenance apart from oil changes every 10,000 kms using...

OT: hello sir jeep, you should visit the islands again soon, lots of new infrastructure - and while the old time favorite tourist spots are fading away, new places are being discovered (like palawan!). i drive two hondas and a toyota here - roads are much better. but the heat - the heat this...

    y'all have Havoline "Energy"?

hi all, i live in southeast asia. we only have three types of havoline oils here: fully synthetic 5-40, formula 20-50, and a newer one, havoline energy semi synthetic at 5-30. does north america have this havoline "energy" variant? is it any good? i'm guessing it's just plain 5w-30 marketed...

    What's In AC-DELCO's "100% synthetic"

i sure hope it's not fake syn, mr. islandvic. although i am fairly sure that the garage service won't rip off the customers as they've got some sort of reputation as a quality shop/corporation. it's called rapide, by the way.

    What's In AC-DELCO's "100% synthetic"

hello gentlemen. since synthetic oil choices here in southeast asia is somewhat limited to a few petroleum companies, most of us here think mobil or western brands are exotic formulations too good for our econo cars. so in the quest for a cost effective oil change i came across a well-known a...

sir vwoom - kumusta din! glad to know there's at least a couple guys here who used to live where i'm at. so it's m1 by popular vote. mr john browning, i was hoping someone would extoll the virtues of castrol gtx 20w-50 because it's the cheapest here at $2 per quart, hehe. well like i said i'm...

ever heard of Vic oil filters?

anyone here from southeast asia? ever heard of VIC oil filters? how are they? they're all over parts supply stores here - and short of buying a filter from the dealerships, VIC seems the way to go here in the Philippines. did a search but can't find VIC filters. Fram isn't available here in the...
