    Brake fluid change topic

That's so cuttingly true we should insist - Feb or no Feb... put this as post of the year. I feel a rant coming on... There's brain-out idiots asking for ceramic brake-pad comparisons and other tosh, yet a simple BF flush... oh no... let's prattle on with some utter nonsense comparing one oil...

Got a brake fluid moisture tester

Yes, I see that. I've coloured pencils, would it help if draw it for you? The green one's nice.

    Brake fluid change topic

The turkey-baster and nothing else, is a dealer-dodge. Better than nothing, but fluid won't mix old with new. Go to each corner. Except on say a clutch, where there's one MC, one pipe, and one slave. Even then, better than nothing, yet still it's not wisest.

Got a brake fluid moisture tester

Yes, Ford and Phoenix say the same thing. I'll type slowly.... Phoenix System sell a pH test strip, branded 'Brakestrip' , its existence verifies my words. It tests for acidity. Oddly, that'd be what a pH strip does? For those without an English education pH is a measure of acidity/ alkalinity...

    Brake fluid overflow

You're bound to spill fluid doing a brake-job. Don't leave it long. Throw a jug of water over the offending area pretty quick and you're fine. Careful though, many MC caps have a breather-hole, don't be chucking water at that.

Got a brake fluid moisture tester

This is what's wrong with the internet. Moisture-content is NOT over-rated. Moisture-content forces a chemical reaction, which in turn makes fluid acidic. Acid leaches metal. Thus metal content is the product of 'over-rated' moisture-content. Metal is the product of acid. Acid corrodes...

Anybody here used Mannol ATF 8218 (JWS 3309)?

I use in my Toyota derived Volvo box, only I'm not sure how I can vouch for it either way? I mean, what can I say? It runs better than the tired stuff ever did. Hardly a challenge. Anyone who says it's good or; come to that bad, is likely using their rectal passage. If the box goes bang next...

    Brake hose brands

The priciest cars in the world use the same brake-hose as the cheapest. Ask yourself why? Hose is hose, if it wants changing, change it. You will not get a firmer pedals with steel-braid, even if it is in 'shonk' blue. If you do, worry. It'll be because your had air somewhere, old hose or fluid...

    Brake Bleeding

I too am with Trav on this. You 'might' get away with it, yut doubtful. Corrosion or dirt will have mashed the seal. Same as pushing pedal down too far past usual travel. Tears seal on corrosion. Ouch.

Third world brake rotor manufacturing video

Find those in Autozone and you'd be none the wiser. Who on earth do we think we're kidding, who is so deluded here? You own stuff like it now. The magic goes on in the pads. There's so much BS given to brake discs/disks/rotors. The coefficient of friction for cast-iron is the coefficient of...

Engine on or off when bleeding brakes?

Or a pressure-bleeder. If it's a stubborn bleed, some vehicles bleed better nose-up. I suppose ABS pumps might like to be running, but doubtful. Engine off.

    Maxlife transmission fluid Relabel?

I'm surprised. Now three pages to this thread, and still no "The Feds have banned it"; why have they taken 'Our freedom?' etc Have you forgotten where you are?... this is BITOG? At least misquote or take some fact out of context. This thread is far too close to rational. I heard... 'Maxlife...

Asian vs. Domestic DOT 3 Brake Fluid

Sure they do. I drink brake-fluid, but I can stop anytime.

Asian vs. Domestic DOT 3 Brake Fluid

Exactly. Can we forget this obsession with boil-point please. Upping from DOT 4 from DOT3; DOT 5.1 from DOT 4 etc isn't always wise.
  15. O

Asian vs. Domestic DOT 3 Brake Fluid

Simple. DOT 4 is unlikely to be an upgrade here. Generally DOT 3 is more chemically stable. It won't go to acid so quickly. DOT 4 is superior on one proviso, you change more frequently. Else, because it'll suck up more water and thus go to acid quicker, with changes neglected, its boil-point...

Asian vs. Domestic DOT 3 Brake Fluid

It wasn't outlawed, blue is fine 'provided' it's not claimed to be DOT compliant. Blue was not outlawed in 2013. It was never compliant. Not since 1971. FMVSS 116 (Dec. 2, 1971 See above - Blue is not the problem here, It's those three letters... DOT. Blue is fine, only the claim it's DOT...

    Bleeder screw sealant

This calls for that rare thing on the internet. Humble-pie. Seems whilst it's usual to run red veggie base grease in fluid - ask for brake-gease and that'll be what you'd usually get. However... it's NOT exclusive. Silicon can be used. eg: Brembo for one, supply sachets of silicon for rebuilds...

    Bleeder screw sealant

Then it's plain wrong, yet most will live. Red brake-grease (vegetable base) is the correct item for contact with glycol-base brake-fluid. Car-culture seems to breed many myths, and those around brakes seem the most numerous. It's not hard to find falsehoods that seem to feed themselves. It's...

    Bleeder screw sealant

Confusion reigns. You wrote: If the above means you not advocating silicon grease in contact with glycol fluid, this when rebuilding calipers? Then you're fine. Only it seems you are. There appears to be a change of tack. Your last post reasonably restricts silicon-grease to threads only...
