    HTHS observations.

I still find it interesting that viscosity # is not the whole story and the 15-40 is apparently more robust in service but thinner at startup than a 15w-50. A friend uses shell hx3 20w-50 in his bike and its very reasonably priced but no hths figures I can find so have avoided it. Castrol may...

    HTHS observations.

I usually use Delvac MX 15w-40 in my 2005 sportster but was in the local parts store and they didn't have any. I bought Castrol Activ 4T 15w-50 instead, as recommended by Castrol. What i found interesting is that the 15-40 Delvac has an HTHS of 4.3 and the Activ 4T 15-50 is 4.1. This is even...

Gear Oil or Motor Oil Sportster questions.....

I use the same oil in engine and primary in my sporty. A couple of points to make. Sportsters are pretty low power machines and so oil suitable for 200hp + shared sump machines should work fine. Many motorcycle and Diesel oils are designed with clutches and gearboxes in mind so should work...

Current Quality of Moto Guzzi Bikes

Guzzi's are cool...and very long lived. A mate has almost 300k kilometres on his. It dropped a valve a little while ago and tickled the piston. Top end job done....good to go. 1000cc LeMans. It seems to handle pretty good as well.

    Harley Sporty 883 Oil?

I am another user of 15W-40 (Mobil Delvac MX), also had UOA done on this oil with great results. My riding is never above about 85F in the summer and down to around 35F in the winter. Not overly hot. In the transmission I have used in the past Redline, too expensive but good, Formula + good and...

Best First Motorcycle: How Much Is Too Much Bike??

The GSXR 750 is a great bike with a good pedigree but is far too much motorcycle for a first bike. We use the LAMS system of bike approval for learner riders. http://www.nzta.govt.nz/licence/getting/motorcycles/lams.html Note some sub 250cc bikes are prohibited. Basically an HP-KG...

EBC pads on an Intruder - HH Sintered or V Semi?

I use the EBC HH sintered pads on my Sportster, almost finished my second set,and agree that they are hard on the rotors. I can see the "damage" on my stainless stock rotors. Not ruined by any stretch but not show condition for sure. Having said that they are far better than the OEM ones were...

mobil 1 v twin similar as hedo 1540?

Analyzer wrote..."While these numbers show that both are stout well formulated oils, it's obvious Mobil's V-Twin formulation is more robust; but is difference worth the cost of $9.99 per qt. at Walmart?" This is the main reason I chose Delvac MX in the first place, after reading about how it...
