Another tire issue weird wear on outer tread

Rubber looks like it's not very new. Is the DOT date older than 7 years? The tread rubber will get less elastic over time.

Colin Powell dies at age 84

Sad to hear news of anyone passing away, especially from Covid, and especially fully vaccinated.

White Dots In My Tire Tread

That is just the markings that the factory puts on the "green" / uncured tread. The color combinations help to keep track of the identification or tread width. There is usually a tread code, date and there info printed on the tread. Most of it is on top of the tread, so it wears off quickly. The...

Adding an engine oil bypass filter - toughts?

    * It would result in keeping your oil "cleaner" for a longer period of time. * It would not result in any measurable increase in engine longevity in most every day commuter vehicles. * It would be a neat project to install and monitor. I would like to install the tp model just to see the results.

Is there such a thing as a decent quality license plate bolt?

There are many good answers about the bolt issue. There are additional things you can do. I have slightly bent a plate, (small curvature), in order to put a little tension on it. With only two screws, it helps to press the plate into the car and prevents it from vibrating. I have installed...

Nice score. I'll guess 45K miles. I have no idea what they are worth.

    Oil stashes

I have >110 gallons in my stash right now. I can't resist some of these great deals. There are several more vehicles in addition to my own fleet that get oil changes at my house. Even though we go through lots of oil, I keep finding deals faster than we use it.

New member, high mileage old Toyota review

Our 1997 Camry is up to 64K miles now. I figure we will drive it until we are tired of looking at it. Solid little car.

Inherited Savage model 110 in 30-06. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

Savage 110 is a great gun. Put a Simms (or any other top quality) recoil pad on it and enjoy.

What's that crap in my Oil ????

Maybe it's because I'm viewing this on my phone, but it looks kind of like strips of clear packing tape. Of course, that doesn't explain how they got in there. Statically, this could happen to any brand of oil. When they bottle thousands or even millions of gallons per year, the odds of having...

    Jalopnik Financial Suggestion

I have a very low tolerance for debt. One way I have avoided debt is to buy cars that have depreciated enough for me to pay cash. I look for older cars with low mileage. Since cars don't rust down here, it makes it a little easier. This strategy allowed me to be totally debt free by the time I...

O'Reilly Auto Parts Helps Save Stone's River Battlefield

I guess I need to pay more attention to local news. I live very close to the battlefield. Very good of them for doing that. Middle TN has been booming for a long time, and land / commercial property is very expensive.

    Oil filter alternatives

I've been using the XG3600 for the past 3 seasons on my Kohler Command 25 hp. The 5w40 Delo still looks about the same as new after a full season of use. It may be wasteful, but I change the oil and filter every year. Cheap insurance.
