Are Theta II engines really as bad as their reputation?

My '11 Sonata currently has 112,500 on it, and still runs like a top! Running M1 EP 5w30 with a Fram XG9688 filter.

Synthetic buying help! Longtime reader first post!

+1 for QSUD. I've used it in a couple of applications, and it has delivered nicely. Not a bad price at Wal-Mart currently, either. However, as previously said, SynPower is a decent oil as well. Feel free to explore...

How often do you change your oil?

My 2011 Sonata 2.4L GDI has been getting approx. 5k-5500 mile OCI's before I started short-tripping due to distance to work. Going to be changing it this weekend at a hair over 4k and doing an UOA to see if I can still extend it to 5k or so, we'll see....

    2000 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2l

QSUD 5w30 or even Mobil 1 will do nicely, along with a Mopar MO-090 filter. I had 243k on mine when I got rid of it (12.5-13.2 MPG at best was killing me, even with good new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor button), sold it to a buddy of mine who is currently enjoying it! As mentioned above, keep...

    Oil for EcoBoost

Honestly, though purely anecdotal, I'm using QSUD 5w30 in my little Sonata 2.4 GDI (currently at around 78k, been using QSUD since I've had it, which has been for the past 15k or so), and no complaints whatsoever. Like many are saying on here, choose a decent oil and filter, and enjoy!

Before you wised up here, ever do stupid stuff?

Three biggies come to mind: 1. Ran a 3800 Series II V-6 in the '99 Grand Prix I used to own bone-dry about 5 years ago this summer. Wasn't checking my oil regularly (laziness and ignorance) and it ran dry on me, the majority of the leaking from the oil sensor in the side of the pan. A total of...

    Android 5.1 update out

Something interesting, in case anyone is having Wi-Fi issues with 5.0.1: I figured out (much to my chagrin, as I did a factory reset before figuring this out) that issues with connecting to certain networks might have something to do with security strength and protocols. I know that, at least at...

    Quaker State, ultimate durability

I use it on 5000 mile-plus OCI's in a DI application (my Sonata), and it's great for the price, though I do 90/10 highway/city travel. To quote so many others in here: "use it with confidence"

neighbor vandalized my floodlight, my options?

The mature part of me says that a re-adjustment might help, if that's his problem with your flood lights The immature part of me says he's being a [censored] and deserves a flaming bag of dog poo The sociopathic side of me says 7.62 Full Metal Jacket lmao.... Seriously, check the aim

Slight vibrations at highway speeds - 2013 Sonata

I almost wonder, like another poster on here, if your hub assembly on that side is damaged? Cars do weird things when they hit large pot-holes. Also, let's not forget the EPS system either that controls the steering, could potentially be a factor, but not one I'd look at first. Also, did you go...

    QSUD 5w30, 2011 Hyundai Sonata, 5258 miles

Oops, I did forget to mention the miles on the oil: I put 5258 on the oil. I plan on running Blackstone's recommended 7K, just to see if it can. I do predominantly highway miles, but I do like running a consistent 70-75 with spirited bursts here and there. No oil additives, and I had 1 quart of...

Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 or Quaker State UD 5w30

QSUD hasn't failed me yet. For the price-point and how well it works for my application, it's what I'm sticking with. I might try the newer formula PP at some point just for S&G's, however. That'll have to wait until after I try PYB (which will be after approximately 5500 miles, as I just...

Who uses Fuelly to keep track?

I do, of course I'm lazy and haven't been on top of it lately lol. It's good as a log and tracker for price and mileage, amongst other things

    Post your latest oil change

2011 Hyundai Sonata SE Out- QSUD 5w30 and Fram Ultra XG9688 In- Same as above (depending on the this UOA turns out, I might decide to try PYB, considering the good I've been hearing about it in my application)

New here and need some input on oil being odd

Gotta agree with fdcg here, looking at that opaqueness and level, I wouldn't be surprised if there was coolant leaking into your oil from somewhere. Either way, good luck!

New to me 2014 Sonata 2.4 (again)

Another Sonata eh wemay? I think you'll be fine with a normal OCI, considering the miles and such. Of course, considering how we tend to be with our cars, spoiling it once never hurt, right? Loving the power out of that little 2.4 I'm sure
