Education, please! New Tech vs Old Campy owner

"BTW - can you elaborate a bit on what defines "street gears"?" That's basically my definition for what I use for my flat city riding. I've got a 3x8, but use the middle (38T) ring 98% of the time. I made a custom cassette using 13-14-15-16-17-19-21-24 tooth cogs. With my age, bad knees, poor...

Education, please! New Tech vs Old Campy owner

Suspension means weight, and GOOD suspension means $$$$$ Maybe just a suspension seat post would be adequate? BTW, I'm 61 and don't want any suspension. I use an 86 RockHopper with 1.5" tires and "street" gears. I only use a back pack. Rear racks would allow me to carry a couple more 12 paks...

    derailleur adjustments

IF this has trigger shifters, your problem is the pawl gets gunked up and doesn't have time to "catch" the mechanism as it's "flying by". Get a can of WD-40 or similar solvent. Pry the case apart far enough to "flush" the mechanism. Let it sit for an hour. Try it to see how it works. It may...

What oil to use for B&S Quantum with issues?

A bit of smoke at start up is a non issue, ESPECIALLY on a vertical engine. Slightly overfilling the oil or storing with the cylinder slightly down exacerbates the problem. Why 5W instead of 10W?

If you'll look on the label of most electric appliances, it'll say something like 110-120V. I'd back it off a "tad"

    Honda EU2000iA parallel operation....?

$1200 for an additional 2k Watts seems pretty pricey! I think I'd buy a bigger unit for less and get a hand truck for it. Use your Honda to power electronics etc. and the big unit for heaters. What part of N Idaho you in? I grew up in CDA-

Briggs Vanguard V-Twin Smoking Upon Start-up?

It's absolutely NOTHING to worry about. While sitting for an extended period, a few drops of oil migrate into the combustion chamber. A few drops makes a lot of smoke. This "problem" is likely to be exacerbated somewhat if the oil is a bit over full.

    Cassette Wobble

Some cassettes simply have a little wobble in them. As long as the cogs don't have ANY side play, don't worry about it.

SM rated oil ok in Honda GC series engines?

I like the diesel type oils for the flat tappet engines. They have the "older type" anti wear additives, since diesels don't have catalytic converters.

    Update on my broken Ellsworth

That's like having something on your car break. They don't have the old part, so they give you a new model. You just have to buy the rest of the new car that goes with it!

Oil Level Sensor On Kohler Engine

Could be a nearly clogged fuel filter. Carb bowl runs out of gas and engine dies. Wait a few minutes and carb bowl refills. Repeat. Have you checked the spark IMMEDIATELY after it quits? Does he reposition himself after 7 minutes and trigger the seat switch?

    Can This Engine Be Saved

That many hours is way beyond typical for these engines. I doubt that it would be economically feasible to try to overhaul it. The valve guides and bore would probably have to be reamed/bored. Add the cost of the new parts, and you could probably buy a repalcement engine. I'd just run it until...

    B&S 18HP engine won't start

The blade engage is the attachment clutch. I'm using the schematic on page 31/56 in this owners manual= http://www.managemyhome.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0404217.pdf As you can see, the M (magneto) terminal of the ignition switch goes to the coil. When grounded, it kills the spark. When the key...

    B&S 18HP engine won't start

It pretty much HAS to be the seat switch. Note- just unplugging the connector to the seat switch does NOT disable it! It has a shorting tab that slides in place and completes the circuit. (grounding connector) The kill circuit works by grounding the M terminal of the ignition switch. You can...
