Can I put ATF in my transfer case?

Well I found out that SAE 90 is actually what is recommended, which according to my research has a standard minimum viscosity of 13.5 at 100c. The Redline High Temp ATFs min viscosity at 100c is 10. So, its probably just too thin to put in the transfer, regardless of whether its GL4 or not...

Can I put ATF in my transfer case?

GL-4, GL-5 is a protection rating, not a viscosity spec. I know of no ATF that qualifies as a GL-4 gear lube, because it does NOT have the level of AW protection needed to meet the GL-4 protection level. What is "AW" protection? But Redline's website says their high temp ATF does meet the GL4...

Can I put ATF in my transfer case?

Its an 88 Land Cruiser FJ62, auto tranny with split t-case. I think the seal between the two may be going and I have heard that you can put ATF in the t-case so if fluid travels across, there is no harm done to the transmission. T-case calls for GL4 75w-90. Maybe GL4 compatible ATF? Looking for...

    Rotella T6 5w40 in my '03 540i and '88 325i???

So I called Shell earlier this week. Spoke to a rep who said he was a chemist by trade. He said he couldnt recommend the T6 for my 03 BMW, for the 88, yes but not for the 03. He said it had never been tested against LL01 and didnt think it would happen anytime soon. (I am really curious though...

-T6 isnt really a "diesel" oil, is it? It is considered a HD oil, rated for both diesel and gas engines. -What are the extra requirements it takes to make an oil meet LL01? Can we not compare an SL or SM or SN oil to an LL01 oil? And then considering T6 is SM rated, makes some conclusions from...

T6 meets those HTHS and SA numbers and is SM rated. SL is what was current in 03, are there any specs of LL01 that T6 does NOT meet?

Thx brandini; BMW calls for LL01 in the 03, but from what ive gathered, LL01 really just pertains to how long it will last. T6 isnt LL01 which is why I will test it in-between changes to see how long to run it. As far as HTHS, are you saying that BMW might give a recommended minimum number, and...
