    "Doesn't burn a drop of oil" ??

This references diesel engines, but the oil consumption, dipstick level, and changing oil type/brand sections apply just the same for spark ignition engines. Especially the part of adding top off oil only when the oil level is at or near the add mark. http://www.erbequipment.com/partsservice/FAQ.htm

    "Doesn't burn a drop of oil" ??

I agree Patman. A dipstick purpose is to show that the oil level is in the "safe" zone for operation. It is not what I would call an accurate measureing device. You can check your oil in the morning and you will get different readings depending on how cold the air temp is. If I check my Element's...

    "Doesn't burn a drop of oil" ??

A foot note to my last post... Auto enginers base oil consumption on fuel used not on mileage. Oil Consumption Test; a)Top off oil to max,top of fuel to full and record mileage on odometer b)Keep record of gas used until one quart of oil is consumed c)Divide miles by gallons of fuel to get...

    "Doesn't burn a drop of oil" ??

Hi rationull, the last OC I used Castrol Syntec 5W-20 because of results from using it in my Element. The next OC I will probally revert to dino, maybe MC or Honda's branded Exon/Mobil brew.I have always found Syn consumes at a slightly higher rate than dino.I agree with Buster that engines with...

    "Doesn't burn a drop of oil" ??

Your rate of oil consumption is about the the same as my wife's 07LX.I really don't think it is an issue with the 1.8L engine with the mileage yours has.It might improve, but if not,it is not a big deal.....just top it off. As an ex-owner of a VW Golf, trust me,you can drive yourself crazy...

    SYNPOWER 5W-20?

Greetings, I headed to Kragen's today to stock up on Synpower now that it is on offer(with rebate)for 99 cents a quart.I wanted 5w-40 for the VW,but was told they no longer stock this grade, bummer. I did get a case of 5w-20 for the Honda, because I can't walk away from a deal like this.I searched...

Maxlife Engine Stop Leak & Conditioner

Hi,Yes it is thick, just like the STP I used in the 70's.The motor has to be warmed up and contents added at idle.I took off the oil cap, stuck the bottle neck in surrounded by a rag,and squeezed.Trying to pour without a rag would end up in a big mess, with most of the contents running down the...

Maxlife Engine Stop Leak & Conditioner

Thanks Tallpaul,I called Valvoline as you recomended and was informed that it was indeed the additive pack used in Maxlife oils. The tech stated that by adding it to the Synpower 5w-40(or any other oil)I use in my Golf, you have a Maxlife oil in any viscosity that floats your boat

    VW 2.0 oil consumption

Greeting to all,I'm new to the forum and hope this subject has not been beaten to death already. My wife's 2001 Golf(AVH 2.0L engine),has consumed 1 quart per 3k miles since new,it is now at 52K.This engine was broken-in as instructed and serviced by the dealer(GTX 5w-30)till 20K miles.Since then...
