Why does my Isuzu specify engine oil for use in manual transmission? Can I use 75w80 gl-4 instead?

Mine was a CRX too! An EE8 (VTEC model). I actually tried a high spec transmission oil in it and it was dreadful, so went back to a 10W-40 synthetic blend which was immediately better.

MB Spec 229.71 comparibility with 229.52?

    Correct. Only 229.52 and 229.61 are specified for the M 176. https://operatingfluids.mercedes-benz.com/sheet/223.2

What is a "Full Synthetic" Oil?

OK, let's answer the other part of the question. Not "what is a synthetic base oil?" but "what is a full synthetic oil?" A full-synthetic oil is one where all of the base oil used to blend it is of a synthetic nature (whatever that means wherever you are). A motor oil is blended using base...

Why does my Isuzu specify engine oil for use in manual transmission? Can I use 75w80 gl-4 instead?

True - my old Honda specified 10W-40 engine oil for the manual transmission. Just to add though, one significant factor for MTFs is friction control of the synchromesh materials. And whilst the gears are not hypoid, they are helical so there is still a roll/slide action between the teeth...

JATCO CVT8 recommended fluid - Mitsubishi Outlander

I've just watched that in parts. He doesn't appear know how many OEMs work. He says that a particular bottle holds "no licence numbers" for various Japanese OEMs. Those OEMs don't issue licence numbers. They don't have a general fluid approval system that any supplier can apply for. He...

Have a look at the pour points too - the 0W-16 has the lowest of the three.

JATCO CVT8 recommended fluid - Mitsubishi Outlander

Someone could, but they wouldn't be in business long. Oil suppliers have good reasons for saying that their oils are suitable for use in the applications they mention, it's not just hopes and prayers. For many ATF requirements there are no published specifications or approvals, so "suitable...

Best ZF transmission oil for Honda Pilot touring 2017

ZF supply the transmissions to Honda. It'll be made to Honda's specification but ZF are the transmission experts and will make it how they need to. Just like OEMs (usually) don't tell the oil companies what to put in the oil, just how the oil needs to perform. The ZF transmission will likely...

So Idemitsu make the Honda CVT oil. What has that got to do with the oil for a ZF step-auto transmission?

    'Severely hydrotreated mineral oils'

This. A "severely hydrotreated" base oil is likely to meet the parameters of a Group III base oil, but it isn't a given. And there's no such thing as Group III+. https://www.api.org/~/media/files/certification/engine-oil-diesel/publications/anne-rev-03-25-15.pdf See E.1.3.

    winter storage facts vs fictions

The first thing to address is that oil is not an aqueous system, so the concept of "pH" does not apply. In an engine oil there are numerous acidic species that can be problematic. They may exist as an aqueous droplet of a strong acid within the oil or as a solubilized (or partially...

Xiaomi CEO Claims SU7 Ultra Is Over 20 Seconds Faster Than Porsche Taycan Turbo GT At The Ring

Many years ago, former Top Gear and Grand Tour presenter James May had a rant about OEMs chasing Nürburgring times. The essence of it was that doing so creates a car that can lap the Nürburgring quickly but is hopeless in real life. Hard suspension, difficult driveability, enormous wheels with...

Base oil and additives volume % and fuel economy.

To be clear, "companies sell additives that meet that meet for example GF-x fuel economy requirements"... when blended as defined by the additive company. The additive package itself meets no engine oil requirements, but it is certified to meet whatever specifications or requirements are...

4 stroke bike oils in cars?

You can't get "TO-4 in the required grade", Cat TO-4 oils are monograde. TO-4M allows for multigrade at approximately 10W-40. If you're going off-piste, why not an agri STOU? Ultimately, the best friction enhanced engine oil for motorcycle wet clutch applications is motorcycle engine oil...

4 stroke bike oils in cars?

Both of those are heavy duty diesel engine oils where higher Zn/P levels are of less consequence than in gasoline engines with catalysts. You can't judge the 'robustness' of an oil on just its elemental content.
