    Shelf Life

I have had some recent concerns on another forum on shelf life of oil. I frequently use oil that is over 10 yrs old without issue. Usually it is some formulation of Mobil 1. I would not think that mineral oils would degrade over time if kept sealed in the original bottles. Perry

Kubota Super UDT2 in manual car transmission

I have an old 91 Mitsubishi Eclipse with a manual transmission. Use to run GM synchromesh and it worked fine in cold temperatures. Running Pennzoil version and it does not shift worth crap when cold. I have been looking at synthetic options and it gets expensive to try and dump at $100+ a pop to...

    Tractor Transmission/Hydraulic Fluid OCI

I wonder if Blackstone can analyze my tractor fluid and determine if it needs changing or not. I am using Kubota super UDT. Fluid looks clean and clear after 300hrs.

    M1 10W-30 in 2010 Honda Rancher 4 wheeler

A while back there was worry about synthetic oils and wet dish clutches. I just bought a Honda Rancher and I need to change the oil in it soon. I have plenty of M1 10W-30 and would like to use that in it, assuming it won't ruin the clutch. I have been using the old formula 15W50 M1 in my dirt...

Mobil 1 10W-30 in lawn mower engine

I just bought a Sears rider with a 21 HP Briggs in it. I plan on mowing 3 acres with it so it will get some use. Would it hurt to run Mobil 1 10W-30 in it? I have some old Delo 400 non-synthetic diesel oil as well. Most of the time I run mineral oils in push mowers but this one is a little more...

    Alternative for Kubota Super UDT

I am in the process of buying a Kubota tractor. It takes 11 gallons of Super UDT fluid to change out the transmission/hydraulic fluid. That is like $200 of fluid. Are there cheaper alternatives that are just as good? Perry

Looking Equivalent for Synchromesh Part #12345349

I am looking for a replacement for the old part number Synchromesh #12345349. I tried the Pennzoil version and it did not do well when cold where the real Synchromesh worked well when cold. I am putting this in a 91 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The dealer gave me some of the above stuff many years ago...

Best synthetic for Mazda Direct Injection?

I just bought a new Mazda 3 Skyactive with the direct injected engine. I know that there have been issues with carboned up valves with some DI engines. I have been using M1 in all my stuff with good results but I have noticed some carbon accumulation as a result of burnt oil with the M1. So...

270,000 mile Ford Ranger tear down M1 10w30

I am in the process of tearing down my 1995 Ford Ranger with 270,000 miles on it. I have used M1 10W30 since 75,000 miles when I bought the truck. I run 10,000 miles between oil changes. A bolt fell through the intake and cracked a piston is the reason I am tearing it down. Does this have any...

0W20 in the US but 5W30 outside US for Mazda

I was reading the Mazda 3 manual and it said 0W20 in US and Canada and 5W30 in other countries. This is telling me 0W20 is a compromise for mileage sake with a potential down side to engine longevity. It also tells me there is no harm in using the thicker oil other than a slight decrease in...

Need source for Prestone Silicone Spray

Looking for the Prestone Silicone Spray. I like the stuff because it actually has a decent amount of silicone and it does not leave a strong mineral spirits or kerosene odor. Ingredients are n-heptane, Propane, and Silicone. Most formulas are about 99.9% mineral oil that stinks like...

    AMSOIL and leaks

I just changed the diff fluid to the Amsoil stuff a year or so ago in my Dana 80 on my 2000 Ford Excursion. I do like I always do and removed all the old gasket material and cleaned the flanges with solvent. The cover was strait and everything was perfect. However, now the flange is leaking. I...

Stihl New 4 stroke using 2 stroke fuel mix

Anyone have any thoughts on Stihl's new 4 stroke engines that use 2 stroke oil for lubrication? To me is seems like the worst of both worlds. You have all the hassel of 2 stroke premix and none of the advantages of a 4 stroke. I would think there would be less than perfect lubrication and you...

    Ford V10 95k burns 1qt every 1500 miles

I just bought a Ford Excursion with a V10 and the oil consumption seems a little high for something with only 95k miles on it. It seems to be burning 1 qt per 1500 miles which is more than I would expect. I am running M1 10w-30. Could the rings be shot in this short of a time or maybe the valve...

Ethanol and 2 Stroke Lubrication Issues

I have been reading somewhere that the Ethanol in gas is causeing lubrication problems in 2 stroke engines. The theory being that the alcohol strips the oil off the cylinder walls. I can see it modifying surface tension but I can't see how it would strip the oil off the cylinder walls. Oil is...

M1 Why all the different formulations

So what is up with M1 having all these different formulations, high mileage, low mileage, new mileage etc. etc. I have been running M1 10W-30 in my Ranger at OCI's of 10k. It burns about 1/2 a quart in the first k or two then stops. I would call this boil off of volatiles. The truck has 200k on...

Need Source For 75W140 Synthetic (5gal)

I am looking for a source of the 75W140 Sythetic Rear Differential Lube. The stuff I am seeing is like $20 a quart which seems like it is about $15 too much for a quart of lube of any kind. I have some Ford Trucks with Dana 80 Limited Slip rear axels in them. I have two trucks and a buddy has...

Mercon Confusing specs and hard to find Mercon V

I am trying to find some Mercon fluid for my 4R100 in my 2000 Excursion. The one quart bottles are like $4 a quart. I can't find anything at Walmart in the gallon jug but Dex/Merc but then it says not to use in transmissions requiring Mercon and Mercon V so why the Dex/Merc lable. Is Dexron III...

Pennzoil Synchromesh not the same as GM version

Well I took folks advice on here and put in the much cheaper Pennzoil Synchromesh and it is just plain old gear oil. I ran the GM Synchromesh in my Eclipse because it shifted like [censored] with the OEM lube. The dealer gave me some GM synchromesh and it shifted like butter. After over 100,000...
