I bought 12qts of GC at 3.99/qt at autozone on friday. gold, not the green...

basically, I'm saying do at most 10k OCIs, to maintain your warranty. Make sure you choose an oil that is VW/Audi approved for your vehicle. if the UOA says you can do 10k OCIs or beyond, then do the 10k OCIs. Otherwise, do whatever the UOA dictates, be it 7.5k or 5k or whatever.

If you want what's best, figure out the best OCI via used oil analysis. If the UOA tells you you can do more than 10k OCIs, stick with what's in the owner's manual. Otherwise, run the oil at the OCIs that the UOAs dictate.

dot 5 is NOT better than dot 4!!! use whichever is specified for your car.

With the older filter, capacity on the b5 a4 and passat 1.8t was suposedly around 3.7qts oil. combine that with a hot turbo engine and 10,000mi OCIs, these engines are starting to sludge up and fail...

Well, remember the engine in the b5 passat and a4 has a lower oil capacity than your MKIV GTI's transverse application, which leads to the sludge issue...

It's not only that... maybe I'm making too big a deal of it, but I wanted to maintain an oil weight which was appropriate for the car in the northeast during the winter. That meant 0w40 or 5w40 oil, which is difficult to find in the plain jane dino oils... I wasn't sure if there was a consensus...
