Thinnest oil to protect engine when warming up

Say we have a common car engine, where an oil with a HTHS of 2.9, xW-30 SAE grade is thick enough to protect an engine when fully warm for general normal use. Assuming a common generic additive pack, what is the minimum viscosity oil to adequately protect the engine as it warms up from a...

    Stubborn brake dust on wheels

Probably been caked on for years. 3 applications of Wonder wheels got the bulk, a plastic scouring pad got a load more (30 minutes scrubbing a wheel), but still some remains. I feel like it might be less effort to sand down and repaint ! Any one got any tips to remove ?

What Motorsports do you like to watch ?

So after the disappointment of the Daytona, I was glad to of found a new channel (UK) showing Auzzy V8 Supercars, watched a few highlight shows and really enjoying it, reminded me of the closeness and battles from the BTCC days when we have the volvos, Alfas, Cleland, Winkelhoch etc. Hoping...

Wynns cleaners with PEA - which one to buy ?

I have a gift voucher and wondering which of these 2 to buy (only products I could find with PEA in). Wynns Catalytic Converter Cleaner is twice the price of the Injection Cleaner Extreme, so I can get 4 bottles of Extreme or 2 bottles of Catalytic Convertor Cleaner. Wynns Catalytic Converter...

    Oil Spec Bible

This is the most comprehensive document I have seen. It covers most of the major oil specifications around the world in great detail. I know it has been posted before, but worth a fresh mention as the old link is dead. www.aftonchemical.com/Afton/media/PdfFiles/Specification_Handbook.pdf...

Reduced SAPS benefits for Petrol 3way Cats

Something I was wondering about, is there any measured benefit to the life of a 3 way Catalytic Converter in a Petrol powered car (assuming running healthily/correctly) ? I've seen lots of mentions of can increase life e.g. ACEA with their Cx specs, but no figures to back up claims?

mitsubishi grandis 2.4 mivec 4G69 which oil UK?

Manual is really non-specific suggesting everything from a 0-30 to a 20-50 and to select grade on temperature, as long as its ACEA rated and atleast API SG. I don't know a lot out this engine, not sure if a more robust HTHS is preferred and what is considered SAE too thin/thick. As we tend to...

Mann - Corolla - Paper and foam !!! (see photo)

Purchased a Mann air filter for my Corolla and I was suprised to see not only does it have the paper element of similar design to OE or pattern filters I have used in the past, but it also has a foam section glued to the paper element. Don't know if better or worse than the pure paper OE...

Oil for 2003 Corolla Verso 1.8 vvti 1ZZ-FE

Just put a deposit down for a mint 2003 Verso, full history, main dealer serviced for first 50k miles. Firstly, am I right in thinking as this car is made in 2003 it wont have the dreaded Oil eating issue that my old 2000 Corolla 1.6vvti had (oil control rings issue) ? Its currently on 75000...
