Castrol Edge 0W30 has BMW LL01 again!

Thanks for the responses. I knew that the spec trumps the grade, but the SL rating had me wondering. Thanks again!

Castrol Edge 0W30 has BMW LL01 again!

Considering a new X5 with the 6-cylinder engine. Does the SL rating of this oil cause any concern?

    Porsche A40 spec?

I realize I don't drive a Porsche, but for what it's worth I'm running the recently reformulated Castrol 5w40 in my Tiguan and the wife's Q5. Both cars are quieter on this than either the Mobil 1 0w40 FS or Castrol 0w40.

    Castrol 0W-40 price shock!

It must be based on zip code- I've got 0w40 below $20 for a 5 quart jug.

    Castrol 0W-40 price shock!

    On the Wal-Mart app 0w-40 is $19.31 for a 5 quart jug: 5w-40 is $22.38.

"New" Edge 0w-40 Non- LL01 findings

The Walmart website now also shows the new 5 qt jugs with the 229.5 cert. My local Wal-Mart doesn't carry it on the shelves- I'm going to order a couple of jugs online for pickup and see what I get. I can leave them there if it's the old stuff.

    Volkswagen 0W-30 504/507 VOA

VW has switched to Mobil as their supplier for motor oil, so it may be the same stuff.

    Switch to 504?

    I ran a VOA on the VW 504 0w30 via Blackstone- got back the following results: Moly ------------------ 67 Phosphorous ------ 722 Zinc ------------------ 790 Boron --------------- 260 Calcium ------------ 1442 Magnesium ------- 12 SUS Visc @ 210 F: 65.2 cSt Visc @100 C: 11.66 Flashpoint: 440...

    Switch to 504?

Will do. Although there is also the new VW branded oil- I believe also made by Mobil- in a 0w30 weight that hits 504/507. Part #GE550301QDSP. I may run that instead and do the same test.

    Switch to 504?

All- thanks for the responses. I'll grab the M1 ESP 5w30 for the next change and do a UOA @ 3k miles to see how it's holding up, then stretch the OCI based on the results.

    Switch to 504?

I've got a 2017 VW Tiguan that's almost out of warranty: almost exclusively short-tripped so I do the oil changes at 5k. Engine requires 502 spec oil. Would switching to a 504 be 'better', or not worth it with my short OCI?

    Castrol Edge 0W-40 lost LL-01?

So does the Castrol 5w40 we have here in the states officially have MB 229.5 now? The Castrol webpage says 229.3, but the data sheet says 229.3/229.5.

    Recommendation for Golf VII 1.8T

Any VW 502 approved will work and be easy to obtain at Wal-Mart. And I also agree with changing the oil at 5k.

    VW Atlas V6 Oil

Was at the dealership this morning and peeked under the hood of the cars in the showroom: one of the cars I looked at was an Atlas V6. The tag under the hood called not only for VW 504.00 but also 0w-30. I have not before seen on the tag under the hood on a VW where they've called for a certain...
