Are Subaru engines made of glass?

My Outback is currently at 261,xxx miles. I love it. It's been very reliable. Generally pretty easy to work on. Sure, head gaskets are an issue, but there's a good fix with MLS gaskets. The internet is a great place to go if you want confirmation bias. Every grumpy person with a gripe about...

Cars you had that were supposed to be junk but turned out great for you

99 Cavalier. Drove it 250,000 miles before I sold it. Original engine and trans with only fluid changes. I liked that car a lot, but rust got to it really bad.

With all the engine issues why do people continue to buy Hyundai’s and Kia’s

I'm still happy with my Forte after more than 3 years. Great gas mileage, nice styling, good interior, AC, etc. The Nu engine has MPI, and no turbo. The oil is super easy to change. The dual-mass flywheel and the quirky clutch are still my only real gripe with the car. I did look at Honda, but I...

Do you use a magnetic drain plug?

I have them in the Subaru. The differential and transmission plugs both have magnets from the factory. I added a Subaru magnetic drain plug to the engine a while ago. It was little more than the cost of a new non-magnetic drain plug, and the corners of the hex head are nice and undamaged.

Ecogard vs Denso vs Premium Guard

My only experience is with Denso for my Subaru. Made in China, fewer pleats, and the material appeared thinner (may have been a trick of the light with fewer pleats.) I'm running it now, but I'll switch back to OE Subaru next time.

    Sugar withdrawals

A couple years ago I tried something like that. Sort of a daytime routine of only protein and veggies with a dinner that was more balanced with carbs. I had crazy sugar cravings, no headaches, but I was really tired during the day for the better part of a month. Felt fantastic afterwards, and...

    Learn to drive!

They put up some good ones here. That looks like SR-201 westbound between Bangerter Highway and 5600 West. Wish the resolution was a bit better.

    Subaru Brand Oil

It's Idemitsu oil. The gear oil in the Subaru bottles is, as well. And I'll parrot what everyone else said. If you get an oil change at the dealer you get bulk. The local place tells me they use Valvoline.

KIA Forte 5,398 miles Shell RGT 5w20

I should add: I have another two oil changes worth of RGT left. I should have bought more before it was discontinued.

KIA Forte 5,398 miles Shell RGT 5w20

So, this is the follow-up to last spring's UOA. Same oil, similar time interval but with 1k miles more on the oil. This summer was hot. Like brown lawn, megadrought, record setting hot. I wanted to see how the oil did with that heat. Just fine. I use the standard KIA oil filter from the dealer...

Quantity of Insecticide used for Outdoor Pest Control?

If you're using a hand sprayer, yes. I use about the same amount for a home with a similar footprint.

UOA 2019 Forte Nu RGT 5w20

Since I cannot edit my post, and didn't adequately proofread: "oil rings" should read "oil control rings." The recall relates to improper heat treatment of the oil control rings.

UOA 2019 Forte Nu RGT 5w20

I added it about 3,000 miles into it. I didn't think it was worrying, as many other new car owners report much greater consumption.

UOA 2019 Forte Nu RGT 5w20

I've been using Rotella Gas Truck 5w20 and the OEM KIA filters on this for the last few years. Doing 6 month intervals, I don't drive more than 6,000 miles in 6 months. I have plenty of RGT in the stash and intend to keep doing what I'm doing. I bought this car new, and really enjoy it. I...

    HONDA ACCORD FILTER CUT OPEN

Last post. I'm done with this. I made a simple comment, and you picked the least relevant point to argue. My original post is still valid, no matter how you look at it. I never noticed any material change in the OEM filters during the time that ownership changed. So, the Honda above does still...

    HONDA ACCORD FILTER CUT OPEN

I've had my Subie longer than most people keep spouses. The point that I was trying to make in the first post was overshadowed by this segue. I was making an observation. I do not know who makes the Honda OEM filter in the first post. I simply stated that it bears a striking resemblance to the...

    HONDA ACCORD FILTER CUT OPEN

Fine. It's a bit academic at this point, Honeywell made them when I bought that car, and I never really stopped referring to them as Honeywell filters. If I call it a BCOD would that make you feel better?

    HONDA ACCORD FILTER CUT OPEN

I just changed my oil, so I have to wait to try it, but there's a Tokyo Roki filter made for Mazda that fits the EJ series engines. There's a good YouTube video where the guy cuts open a dozen or so filters for a Legacy GT and compares them. Mazda (N3R1-14-302)

    HONDA ACCORD FILTER CUT OPEN

The one that's on my car right now says "MADE IN USA" but doesn't say anything about Honeywell.

Looks so much like the Honeywell made Subaru OEM filter.
