New to Briggs & Stratton engines and was wondering...

Thanks for replies, everyone. For those who asked, the engine is a #093J02-0167-F1. I agree that the "never having to change the oil" in my engine sounds like marketing. I understand, though, that these engines are thoroughly engineered and with modern oil such an engine could last for a very...

New to Briggs & Stratton engines and was wondering...

I admit to being specs-obsessed and couldn't find any answers online... Although my year-old Toro Personal Pace mower is advertised as "never needing an oil change", I'm changing the oil for the new season. If I recall, the engine (093J00 series) only took about 12oz of SAE30 (the Toro...

Oil for a Direct Injection engine?

I admit that I haven't done a search on this yet, but I wanted to ask: Is there a risk of messing up the cat converter by using something like SeaFoam to clean the intake valves? My concern is due to all the [censored] that comes off the valves has to pass though the converter on its way out...

Oil for a Direct Injection engine?

Being one of the new guys, I'm glad I could contribute to the forum with a decent topic. Thanks for the great info. Always OEM filters for me as well - no criticism meant for those who use aftermarket ones. I did notice the Quaker State recommendation in my car's owner's manual and will look...

Oil for a Direct Injection engine?

Yes - Hyundai does not require premium fuel for their normally-aspirated 1.6L GDI engine. It does have a somewhat higher compression, though (11.0:1, if I remember correctly) - could this be another reason for running rich?

Oil for a Direct Injection engine?

I think you may be on the right track with manufacturers just ignoring a long-term problem. I guess there's just a bit more maintenance to direct injection ownership (without any port injection), if you want to keep the engine clean/working to spec. I also agree that Toyota's idea holds up to...

Oil for a Direct Injection engine?

I agree regarding intake vs exhaust cleanliness on direct injection engines. I also scratch my head regarding the rich mixture on DI engines, but there must be some logic to it (I assume for durability). I've even considered doing a yearly SeaFoam through the vacuum line... but this is for...

Oil for a Direct Injection engine?

I'm certainly hoping that manufacturers are getting better at dealing with valve deposit issues. There's some scary stuff out there regarding Audi buildup issues, etc (although I assume this is getting to be fairly old now). I've used the Hyundai/Kia recommended Techron additive recently on...

Oil for a Direct Injection engine?

Thanks for your replies. The 1.6L naturally-aspirated GDI engine is a pretty impressive effort by Hyundai. It's not really a big deal overall, but the soot accumulates very quickly and it's tough to keep the rear bumper clean. Having white paint doesn't help, either. I wish direct injection...

Oil for a Direct Injection engine?

Hi everybody. I have a new Hyundai direct injection (GDI) engine and am curious about oil as it relates to this type of engine. Does the type of oil (synthetic vs conventional) have any effect on the amount of soot produced by the exhaust on a direct injection engine? Also, does the oil type...
