    Camry Rental, impressions

I completely agree. There is a reason this car is the #1 seller, year after year after year, etc. If the Camry were as bad as some people say they are, the number of sales would have reflected that long ago. Toyota has the formula down pat, and they know it. Originally Posted By: HTSS_TR...

Is low specific output the secret of engine life?

After reading 5 pages worth of this thread, all I have to say is "Yes" I think less output on an engine makes it last longer. Case in point: my old Camry NEVER felt powerful even when relatively new. Transmission shifts better than anything else I drive. Fast forward many years and many miles...

    Camry vs Sonata

I would go Camry in a heartbeat if that were me. When they sell as many cars as the Camry does, you are bound to hear about more complaints. When Chevy down sized the new Malibu to turbo DI 4 cylinders only, I lost my interest in that car. Toyota (Camry) all the way.

Any GM 3800's use 5 qts?

My Impala 3800 takes 4.5 quarts of oil. Putting in 5 qts might put it 1/4" or a little more over the full mark, but not the amount you had. I have never heard any 3800's take any more than 4.5 quarts. I have seen where the pre set filling machines that do fleet work had the dial set on a large...

    Trust older tire balancing equipment?

I have bought new tires from a chain store loose for years and years, and paid a local, TRUSTED guy to mount and balance them. Never had any issues with them even at high speeds. I recently put new Michelins on my truck and I picked them up earlier than he thought and had one yet to balance. I...

Disappointed with Accord after one Salt Exposure

I really do not think there is anything to worry about here. The control arm looks to be cast iron, so no worries in that rusting through. I've never heard of an aluminum transmission corroding through leading to failure, or would worry about surface rust on a strut. Now I saw a silver 2011...

Thin oil, thick oil, synth or dino,

To each there own. If it works for you, that is good. I can't imagine running 15w40 in South Dakota year round on what is an eco-friendly mpg oriented vehicle? Maybe if the 15w40 works so well, upgrade to a 20w50 when it gets to be -10 degrees and listen to those engines hum along (not really)...

    2016 Malibu

Since my cars are getting up there in age, I saw 4 new Malibus sitting on a dealers lot and decided to check them out. While I think the new Impala looks like a decent car, I don't know why all the fuss in trying to make a smaller version of it and call it the Malibu? Impala sales are....meh...

Opinions on a '04 Grand Prix GTP

Personally, I think this was the best era to buy a GM vehicle. I always thought the Pontiacs looked great and had a very sporty look to them. Too bad they are gone now. I have an Impala LS with similar specs minus the supercharger part. I agree that the 3800 has to be the absolute best part of...

neighbor wises up-dumps his 2012 equinox

My dad bought new a '12 Malibu LT with the 2.4 liter and his is not DI (thankfully). 3 co-workers have the new Equinoxs and they don't really sound that great starting up. I'm sure it has to do with DI, but my old Impala LS is SO much quieter than those new SUVs. Is that good or bad....for them...

    240k miles valve train pics

Dude, that looks awesome! It probably looks better than a 2015 rental car with DI and 50,000 miles. Nice job.

WTB - Classic Truck - Need Tips

I agree on finding one not driven in the salty roads. I have a '78 Chevy C10 that was my HS graduation present given to me in '85, now with 337,000 miles on it and off the road 7 years ago, sitting next to my garage right now as a future project truck. It was a great truck in it's time, but the...

Nissan Rogue made in TN or Korea. should I care?

I wouldn't hesitate for a second buying anything built in Japan (or Germany for that matter). Mexico, Korea or China built would get me a little nervous on an expensive purchase like a vehicle. To me, Japan is top notch in quality, whereas others from overseas remind me of a dollar store level...

what should I do about this rust spot? PICS

If it were me, I would scrape that rust bubble off carefully, spot sand it with sandpaper to remove rust and smooth the edge out, apply Rustoleum rusty metal primer with a little artist brush and follow up with the actual car touch up paint over top from Autozone, etc. Once the paint bubble...

GM terrain uses oil since new

While I don't think it is that bad at all, but if it has done so since new, that is probably normal for your engine. If it burnt no oil when new and now burns 1 qt/5,000 miles, I would say it might get worse as the miles add up. Switch oil brands and see if that helps. Maybe try a conventional...

When do you guys call it quits on vehicles.

Very true. My '91 Camry 4 cylinder went 248,000 miles before an exhaust valve burnt causing no compression on cyl #3. I never adjusted them, and my in-laws sold it to us in 1999 before that required maintenance mileage was met. Long before it burnt, the car was very quiet, because there was no...

    Your opinion on 05 camry

It sounds like a great first car for her. The 4 cylinder should be fairly easy to service and you should get many care free miles from that Camry. Our neighbor had that year Camry and she liked it better than her brand new Camry she drives now? Good car + good price = happy family.

What do you people think of this car ?

I think it was a dealer's dream probably having the owner come in and just do whatever they feel it needs. It looks like a nice car inside and out, but I have to agree that the 3800 engine is a gem. It's not far different than your current ride, but if you like Buicks anyway, a good deal on this...

Who is one of the "good" Quarterbacks of all time?

Tell us about it. But it's Buffalo, and unfortunately we have gotten used to it. No playoff games in 15 years......Embarrassing. Double Originally Posted By: Chris Meutsch EJ Manuel is NOT. Good lord it is hard to be a Bills fan.

Pick a winner - Several BEATER trucks

Considering they have a lot of miles on them, they have already done their job. If it were me, I would choose the GMC Sport with winter tires and some weight in the back. The 2.2 liter engine and auto trans are pathetically slow, but driving on snowy roads in a 2WD with that combo is a GOOD...
