Raybestos E3 rotors rusting earlier than expected

Thanks. I used to use the black coated rotors on all the cars. I thought to be explorative this time around and try a fully coated one to help reduce the rust lip where the pads doesn't get to. Next time I'll go back to the black ones.

Raybestos E3 rotors rusting earlier than expected

Not heated and I actually only did 2-3 drives in snow last year with this car as I was still recovering from medical reasons.

Raybestos E3 rotors rusting earlier than expected

The car is old and has over 330k km. That's why the other hardware are old, but those parts shouldn't affect the rotor.

Raybestos E3 rotors rusting earlier than expected

I put raybestos E3 pads and rotors last year end of fall while swapping on winter tires. This year while swapping tires the front rotors looked like this. I logged down the mileage when I put them on. The car is garaged and it accumulated 3k km since first installed. It's rusting faster than...

New-to-me Subaru, what oil to go with?

A little off topic but about the HG and EJ. Ppl say to change the coolant, but do you suggest putting in the OEM conditioner bottle? I hear it's a debate.

Spark Plug Replacement After 18 years.

I did our 2001 v6 with 170k miles in 2020. The plugs are plated. Only 1 out of 6 gave some resistance when loosening. So I just slightly tightened it back up and worked it out. Didn't need any penetrating oil. You should be fine.

Seized caliper did I do enough test to verify?

There were really no washers in between unless they somehow fused and was flush with bolt and on the caliper. The banjo bolt and that side of the hose inlet was clean and smooth so I didn't put a washer there. The other side with, Napa had this silver paint around the hole and it was not the...

    Recent experience with reman calipers?

I'm in Canada and the car is required for work so there's no time to wait for rebuild. I don't think shipping cost will be cheap.

Seized caliper did I do enough test to verify?

That's weird. Toyota caliper didn't have any washers on either side.

    Recent experience with reman calipers?

As there are 2 versions of caliper for my model year, I really had even more slim picking and couldn't gamble ordering from rockauto for cheaper price. I also wanted to fix it this weekend so got Napa Adaptive One(supposedly lifetime warranty), but when I opened box it's just total eclipse part...

Seized caliper did I do enough test to verify?

Replaced caliper, but had to go mix route and used old bracket. The painted bracket from Napa made the pads bind even more than old bracket. It's old car, I don't care much about the how it looks as long as it functions. I also reused my old 14mm banjo bolt for consistency. As the caliper side...

Seized caliper did I do enough test to verify?

I got NAPA adaptive one reman caliper. It's probably the same as the total eclipse since it's painted black and has that part number. I also tested further by taking out the bleeder screw and it's not plugged. I pinched lightly on the brake hose and tried to push the piston in with wind down...

Seized caliper did I do enough test to verify?

I grind down the rust on the bracket, used new clips and one side of the pad ear was still a little binding. These are Raybestos EHT3. So I filed down a bit to have more uniform movement.

    Recent experience with reman calipers?

No new caliper I can see from rockauto even if I pay for shipping and foregoing the core return. Lexus wants $490 CAD to order a new one from US that takes 10 days. I now realized there are 2 versions of the caliper.

    Recent experience with reman calipers?

Thanks everyone. I now have issue with which caliper revision to get. The only one that's local and in stock is Napa profromer line(1 yr warranty). It might be different up in Canada vs the names in US. https://www.napacanada.com/en/p/PQC24261478?ref=MA== The product code SE2525C goes to NAPA...

    Recent experience with reman calipers?

Any recent experience with powerstop, centric or raybestos reman calipers? How long have they work for you say in the last 3 years? Has any of the ones you installed lasted over 2-3 years and generally which brand has higher QC?

Seized caliper did I do enough test to verify?

Other than OE(dealership wants $430 + tax and 10 days wait time Which brands are more trustworthy when it comes to calipers or it's just luck?

Seized caliper did I do enough test to verify?

When I took apart. I did test the slide pins and there were moving since I just lubricated them 2 months ago. I grind down the brake pads ears to let them move more freely in the bracket. There should be minimal drag from the brake pads. This is my first time dealing with possible seized...

Seized caliper did I do enough test to verify?

2001 RX300 close to 300k km Was told that car shakes while braking at high speed(just replace pads/rotor 2 months ago) Found excessive brake dust on driver side, rotor has a yellow reflection tint on it. Suspected the caliper not releasing fully and now pad deposits on rotor. That's easy to...

Raybestos E3 RPT vs Powerstop Geomet (12-month quick review)

I'm trying to decide between the 2 models. 14 cents splits the difference between the 2 brands on a full set. Based on the photo and the hat area, it seems like powerstop is a bit better other than specks of rust dots, but the vane is better on the Raybestos for the front rotor. I thought the...
