    5w-20 and engine longevity

Maybe, but my own tests on the last few changes are in line with the averages listed. 0w20 was the worst, 5w30 was the best, by a large margin. I haven't run 10w30 yet. The weather here is relatively constant, at least compared to canada. Most samples that I've tested were in use for close to a...

    5w-20 and engine longevity

Why would it be that most of those were taken in winter? According to Ford 5w20 is good year round. I've run 0w20 and 0w30 not during the winter, although my truck has only seen below freezing a couple times. Even if you throw them out because they MIGHT be winter use, 10w30 still beats 5w20...

    5w-20 and engine longevity

The first time I downloaded this, I misinterpreted it. I didn't really pay attention to the numbers. Now I see that it's miles per PPM of wear, backwards of how I personally think about stuff like this. I would have set it up as PPM wear per mile. Whatever. It shows pretty clearly less wear...

'94 5.0 Mustang performance mods questions.

If you can turn a wrench, I'd swap cam, heads for AFR 165's or 185's and intake. Get good headers. It'll trounce the supercharged setup, and you can do it in steps. Then when you are done, put the supercharger on. A centrifugal supercharger won't produce much if any boost off idle...

    5w-20 and engine longevity

There's a guy who posts on ford-trucks.com with a fleet of grain trucks with v-10's. All of them are over 250,000, always used MC 5w20 with MC filters. All day those trucks drive back and forth carrying 10000 lbs of grain. Actually there are plenty of guys at the forums at that site with well...

For VW and Audi 1.8T owners!!!

Don't let them tell you that, they are all the same company. There are a number of legal/tax reasons for seperate compnies and as a side benefit they can give the customer the same line of crap they gave you. I've worked at a number of foreign auto companies US HQ's and that's the way it is. Eric

much better MPGs after using Shell's v-power

I filled up with V-power a week ago. Could be just unlucky with a bad tank but my truck pinged like crazy on the slightest load. I experienced the same pinging problem a couple years ago in a different truck, same shell station though. Anyways, after driving 10 miles I stopped and put in 3...

ATF vs PSF. Which is superior ???

Not sure what's better. If your running synthetic tranny fluid, I'd run it in the steering just for convenience. I doubt it would make a difference either way if both were synthetic. You could do UOA's... Eric

Can transmission fluid be too cold?

I visted this site today to ask this very same question. I have a 2001 F-250 V10 Auto 4x4. Friday I took a 90 mile trip to pick up some stuff. When I arrived temp was about 125 F. Left a couple hours later and it got up to about 135 when I parked. Factory cooler and a deep sump pan. Most of...

What Auto. Trans do I have???

Ford-trucks.com is another good site. After reading a bit about the 2004's, it sounds like it must be a new tranny. The 4r100's didn't have anywhere near as many problems. Eric

2005 Ford 5.4L 4V GT (SC) Oil Recommendation?

Mileage is a significant issue. With 87 octane pushing $2.30 around here 7 % becomes significant. Maybe I'll switch back to MC 5w20, or maybe the new 5w30. Depends on the UOA with 0w20. Interesting point made about oil temperature. I've never seen mine go above 220F, even while towing 11,000lbs...

Magnetic drain plugs and filter sleeves

Here's a thought, and it's why I use magnets. If the bypass is open then the filter isn't going to catch those particles.

2005 Ford 5.4L 4V GT (SC) Oil Recommendation?

Hello everyone, first post here. Been lurking for a long time. I have a 2001 Superduty with the V-10. Currently running 0w20 M1 but have been wondering if it is really providing the best protection. I've heard/read the modular motors have tight tolerances etc, and that they were designed for...
