    Drone Engines

This is an engine used in the drones currently in the news. Not wanting to get into a discussion of global events. It looks to me like the engineers/manufacturers poached the specs from an early VW aircooled design. Has 50 HP and the drone has ~1600 mile range. Might be fuel injected. What...

Last Survivor of the USS Arizona Passed Away Today

I thought this was especially poignant today as I met a WW2 vet in the parking lot at Walmart. He was alone. Had a 30 minute conversation with him. Name is John N., an army veteran. 97 years old. A black man from NC. Enlisted at Ft. Bragg. A radio man, joined right after the attack at PH...

    College Campus

Spring is in full swing in the south. I have the good fortune several times a week to be on the local college campus in my town. It is way different from the sterile, concrete fortress where I went. Here the azalas and pear trees are in bloom and the campus is a flowering picture.. My...

    Surf Fishing

I like to surf fish. I spend a good chunk of the summer at my NC beach house. Salt air is good for your health/well-being. Despite trying numerous baits and spots all I consistantly catch are smallish sea mullets. I did get a nice permit once and a few pompano. Small rays are a nusiance. I...

    Beware The Ides of March

This should be easy for the erudite members of BITOG. At least for the members that got a traditional education. Where did this quotation originate, who said it to whom and what does it portend? "Et tu Brute?" Dictionary.com

    Food In Various Countries

If you have some stamps in your passport, one of the most interesting things is eating new foods. Not to be US centric. We have some unusual food here (maybe indigestible) too. If you have been peripatetic share your experiences. Mine; Spain, paella is always a reliable dish. The closer you...

    Alarming News From Canada

I will only post the head line from the article today. You can find the complete story online easily. Question for the Canadian BITOG members, Is this true? If so, will you be at risk from posting on this forum? Also the banned subject matter includes discussion about oil as well. I can't...

    Bank Fraud

I had a car loan with a very large national bank in 2009. I also had a mortgage with them. I shall not mention the name but they have a famous American Western icon for a corporate logo. About a month ago I received two letters from this bank which alerted me that I was entitled to a payment...

    What States Are We From?

Many have listed their states on profiles. Most have probably lived in more than one state. Demographics is an interesting topic. No personal info. Grew up in and around Chicago. Moved to NC almost forty years ago. Wx, roads, cost of living here is better. I'd never move. Drivers are more...

How Many Miles Have You Driven?

I estimate my mileage; 60 years driving x 8K/year. Conservatively maybe 450-500K miles. Accidents; 1, not my fault. I know my distance is likely not much. Some of you fellows might be OTR drivers.

    Chassis Squeaks

My 2006 Saab Combi, 97K miles has developed a chassis squeak. It is definately not a clunk or rattle and seems to come from the aft end of the car. I did the rear brakes about a month ago but no untoward noises after I finished. The noise seems to come from underneath but it is difficult to be...

    Stolen Tags

Had a second tag stolen from my small utility trailer. Twice in ten years. Trailer is parked inside of a fenced in back yard. It is taken to Lowes several times a year to pick up sod and other garden items. Just noticed it gone today as it has been in my son's yard for about a year. He uses it...

    Power Washers

Power washed my brick patio this afternoon. It is an electric unit producing 1800 psi. I filled the fluid reservoir with a cup of bleach and some dishwashing soap. It worked ok but I went over the bricks afterwards with bleach and a deck brush. Looks about 80% better. Most of the black/green goo...

    Oven Won't Heat Up Properly

2019 Kitchen Aid flat top electric range. Won't heat past 365F. I replaced the temperature probe today and no change. Also takes a long time to get to max temp. I tried the calibration option, no change. Other than buying a new unit what's the fix?

    Alternator or Battery?

BITOG diagnosticians work me up a differential Dx. My elderly Volvo seems to have a charging problem. I've charged the battery and after driving awhile it cranks slow. I'm wary to drive it. Might leave me stranded. Known history, 1992 Volvo 320K miles Walmart Everstart battery circa 2/22...

    Aftermarket Radios

Ok BITOG polymaths, looking for advice on replacing a factory original 31 year old radio in my '92 Volvo. I don't drive it much and I'm no audiophile even before losing hearing on the starboard side. I've looked over the options from Crutchfield and need a basic, reliable easy to install unit. I...
