    VOA Diesel Oil Database

Valvoline's premium blue listed above shows 1153 Phos 1290 Zinc.... On the Valvoline site today 12/29/22 their PDS shows 800 Phos 890 Zinc.. How can testing vary that much batch to batch, assuming the testing was correct? Maybe the variations are oils being tested at different times, or...

Rural King has changed the Harvest King All Fleet to new packaging identified as Providence Oil. Did the supplier and formula change as well?

FT cam break in "non detergent" oil

I am doing the obligatory Chevy 350 crate motor upgrade. New Vortec heads, and replacing the stock flat tappet with a very small Lunati flat tappet cam. I have new hardened face GM lifters and will check that each lifter rotates before starting the engine. It seems that by the time you install...

FT cam break in "non detergent" oil

Detergent "wash off" sounds like a crazy theory to me. This will be the second flat tappet cam in 30 years I will break in. I broke the last one in on Syntec 20w50 in 1992 and it did not go flat. I am planning on using Rotella 10w30 dino for this session.

FT cam break in "non detergent" oil

I get that flat tappet break in oil should contain elevated amounts of zinc and phosphorus. What I don't get is why there are various videos on YT that say "Don't use a detergent oil, the detergent will wash off the additives and your cam will go flat"... Now, the only non detergent oil I am...

    VWB for Turbo application!

I am set on the 3K OCI. If it were a port injected engine that cleans the intake valves each cycle and didn't have the fuel dilution of GDI, I would entertain running the OCI to 6K miles on a synthetic. If research shows that the intake valves gather deposits from used engine oil, and that...

    VWB for Turbo application!

Yes Wemay! http://www.pecj.or.jp/japanese/overseas/conference/pdf/conference12-19.pdf Page 14 talks about the PCV system not contributing to IVD's. Back to this again... Intake valve deposits haunt me at night... I will try VWB... low calcium, 3K OCI's, Hyundai factory filter...

PQIA tests obsolete and poorly labeled oils

I wish PQIA had a decent menu or site map. It is nearly impossible to find what you are looking for unless you wade through the news feed..

    VWB for Turbo application!

Yeah, Hyundai tuned these cars to be adaptable. In the face of logic, the Veloster actually makes more power on 87 down low. Check out this link. The dyno graph is the first post: http://www.velosterturbo.org/forum/velos...rent-fuels.html I do like the "hit" that makes the car seem faster. On...

    VWB for Turbo application!

I have tried 87 89 and 93 Octane. Strange thing, 87 Octane Sunoco runs the best. I get a tad more in the upper rpm range with 93, but fuel economy goes down by 1-2 mpg with 93. Low and midrange power is peppier with 87. Go figure... I wouldn't mind running synthetic if I was confident in...

    VWB for Turbo application!

Guys, I'm not modifying the car in ANY way. No catch cans, no tune out the egr (has no egr), no PCV removal, etc. Two reasons, one the car warranty is 10 years and Hyundai is very strict on warranty coverage. Second, the same studies I am referring to also state that a catch can and/or removal...

    VWB for Turbo application!

New 2015 Hyundai Veloster 1.6 GDI Turbo. 2,000 miles on the factory fill now. At 2,500 miles I plan on changing the oil and using a new Hyundai factory filter. Here is what I am looking at and why for oil: Valvoline white bottle 5w30. Why? Consider this: I drive the car on weekends only...

Hyundai Veloster Turbo 1.6 GDI oil

Crimeny... now Castrol Edge has calcium on par with most other synthetics? This is driving me nuts.. So the Amsoil test conducted in 2013 was relevant for only a few months until all of the companies change their blends?? If that's the case, how do we know what we are pouring into our...

Hyundai Veloster Turbo 1.6 GDI oil

Olas, I don't think the Veloster Turbo has an EGR valve from what I've found. An OCC would be nice to separate vapors from the oil.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo 1.6 GDI oil

Thank you gentlemen! Omegaspeedy, your link worked well. That is a great comparison chart. I found this link: http://www.savantlab.com/images/Q1_2014_TEOST_Technical_Brief.pdf on TEOST that was published March of 2014. It explains how they test oil for turbo deposits. A little off topic...

Hyundai Veloster Turbo 1.6 GDI oil

Omegaspeedy, your link to "tool" didn't work. BitterShard, I haven't found Shell Helix ACEA A5 here in Florida. Do you think they filled the engines with oil in South Korea then shipped them over here? Also, what weight of Shell Helix did they install at the factory? I am with you on the...

Hyundai Veloster Turbo 1.6 GDI oil

Would I be better off in Florida using an oil with an HTHS of 3.5? I think Castrol Edge 0w30 is ACEA A3/B3 A3/B4 rated as well as Merecedes 229.5, etc. However it is now Honda HTO-06 turbo approved/meet/exceed. It seems that the 'thinner' oils (HTHS 2.9 and lower) are the dexos/gf-5/energy...

Hyundai Veloster Turbo 1.6 GDI oil

I recently bought a '15 Hyundai Veloster with the 1.6l GDI Turbo engine, a/t transmission. I have 900 miles on the car and it runs great. I am researching what oil would fit the bill for the car, provide good protection and low deposits. Things I am concerned about are deposits, and LSPI...

Awesome guys! I can now turn out the lights and get some sleep. Yes, the 6 year old coolant looks brand new. It is perfectly clear and is flamingo pink. After some searching on the internet again, I found bulletin 04D-J-054 from AC Delco Tech connect to all jobbers and distributors regarding the...
