Best order to park: shift then parking brake?

You can shift into Park first, just don't take your foot off of the brake pedal before setting the parking brake.

My new 98 Monte Carlo z34

That clubgp link may not be relevant... It's written for the 2nd generation W-cars, the 95-99 monte carlo is a generation 1.5. Junk turn signal switches are super common and is always a case of when, not if, they require replacement. Happens with the late(94+) 1st generation W-bodies as well...

    Post your rpms at 70mph

60/70=.857 multiply RPM at 70 by .857 and you have RPM at 60, unless you for some reason drop a gear or have slippage going on at 60 that doesn't happen at 70.

    Miracle Fuel-saving Devices that Didn't Work ...

i don't know if there are any fuel economy benefits from it, but TC-W3 sure did quiet the fuel pump in a 92 ranger.... i have to actively listen for it now. was slick50 ever considered a fuel economy improver? because i got burned on that once.

    4T60 ATF Filters

i like the WIX filters and always order them with a pan gasket(since there is a version sold without) since i tend to have bad luck with the "reuable" factory gasket.

    Scotty Kilmer: Don't use MMO!

i seem to remember the TC-W3 octane rating also being in the 40 range. at the 640:1 most people run it at, the impact on octane is probably half of that of a bad batch of fuel.

    Scotty Kilmer: Don't use MMO!

kilmer also recommend dumping in a gallon of acetone(i think) into the fuel to "fix" cat efficiency codes, rather than fixing the actual issue.

Great study on spark plugs and # of electrodes

so, with a F1 engine, where piston to plug clearance is likely even smaller, are they dealing with the same arc to piston problem? or are the pistons coated? or with a properly designed surface discharge plug, is this not a problem?

is there an objective DIY spark plug test?

having to advance timing is indicative of a slower burn speed. with laser ignition, you'll likely be able to fire a plug far after TDC, nearer the ~14-21* ATDC that is quoted as being the best place for maximum cylinder pressure to occur.

    95 Olds vs. 96 Buick

if it's a 95 model year, it is OBDI, guaranteed. it may or may not have the 16 pin connector, but it has an OBD1 PCM, a non-underhood version of the unit found in the 94-95 3.4 W-bodies, which itself is a derivative of the 90-93ish 3800 PCM. there are legitimate GM OBD1.5 and early OBD2...
