Jump starter not starting newer AGM equipped cars

Something was wrong with the test or a result of single cell short. I've witnessed both tools being turned into blobs of molten metal with 3-12 cell shorts; cells exploding and sending sulphuric acid all over the space. I've thrown out holed clothes as a result of acid dripping from structural...

Formula 1 starting already this weekend?

At least the midfield runners are a bit closer together.

DC arc welder restores sulfated golf cart batteries.

Sounds like you blew the sulfated surface off the plates. You'll probably find more sludge in the pit under the plates and a reduced capacity, but when compared to useless high resistance sulfated batteries it sounds like a win to me.

H11 LED Headlight bulb disassembled - Pictures

So a bridge rectifier and a small constant current buck converter. Pretty conventional and maybe a couple of dollars worth of bits. I concur it's a shame they don't spend an extra buck on quality leds. I guess for every one that doesn't wind up in landfill they lose profit on a sale, so it's...

    Anyone heard of RAMCAR batteries?

RAMCAR OEM manufacture a number of the brands sold in Australia. My limited experience with them has been excellent.

How do you define "holding a charge"?

80% is the rule used for "design life". For example I have 2 sets of SLAs here. One is a 10 year and the other a 5 year. The theory being in a float charge scenario with light cycling they are designed to retain >80% of their capacity inside the design life. My current car battery is ~46 months...

Will thread sealant reduce leaks here?

I've only had one leak because it had badly crossed threads and just couldn't get the torque up. I made a flare washer. Don't remember now if it was 1/2 or 3/4" but I used a standard 45 degree flaring tool to flare a bit of pipe, cut it down and annealed it. Hasn't leaked in 6 years.

    Coolant analysis

I would have thought a pool test kit Chloride test would be cheaper, easier and just as accurate. The Chloride levels of salt water are pretty consistent unless you are boating in the dead sea.

Vacuum tool to fill cooling system

I've used pretty much all the aforementioned approaches. My fav is the drop and refill because it's thorough. I have a combined pressure test / vacuum fill kit. Putting the system under maximum pressure will shrink the bubbles significantly so even at idle they'll often make their way to the...

Distilled water to flush different colored coolant - OCD?

I've done this for years. After one or more DI flushes there's essentially no coolant left, but there's always water. I dump in the correct volume of concentrate and then top up to the correct level. That way you're guaranteed to get the mix right first time, every time. As for the DI water...

    Another successful Citric Acid flush

Nice necropost. Ammonia isn't much fun in the presence of copper.

    I bet Red Bull do.

    Marquez the Magnificent

Apparently a "domestic incident with a large door/window". It appears he's out for 3 races. At least he's not trying to rush back. With Bradl on the bike I hope Honda have the budget for extra spares.

    Marquez the Magnificent

It was announced during Q2 that he wouldn’t be racing. Risk vs reward and can’t fault the decision. Even in his leathers it was pretty obvious there was significant swelling.

    F1 - 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix

Can't say that race wanted for action. It'll be interesting to see any statement from Ferrari as looking at the replay from multiple angles it all appeared to be on Vettel.
