    What's in your grease gun???

Where the Timken grease shines is in it's low operating temp. Mystik JT-6 red has an operating temp of -10°F to 325°F. This is pretty typical for non-synthetic grease. Even many synthetic greases don't go much lower. The Timken GR-224 grease has an operating range of -40°F to 300°F. For people...

Spain to dismantle over 30% of wind turbines in next 5 years

The truth is, "disposing" of spent nuclear fuel is borderline criminal. It's throwing away perfectly good fuel. Light water power reactors only burn a tiny fraction of the U-235 in the fuel. Likewise, only a meager amount of the U-238, which is the bulk of the fuel, is converted to plutonium and...

Spain to dismantle over 30% of wind turbines in next 5 years

Batteries are among the worst ways of storing bulk electrical energy. They are resource and energy intensive to manufacture, contain toxic components, unstable (lithium technology), short lived, and have poor recycleability (except lead acid, which are extremely recycleable thanks to their...

Spain to dismantle over 30% of wind turbines in next 5 years

Yeah, I failed to mention that most areas that are suitable for hydro have already been exploited. There isn't much left in the way of rivers to dam for energy generation. Also, electrical generation using hydro takes a lot of water. The Grand Coulee dam is the largest electrical generating...

Spain to dismantle over 30% of wind turbines in next 5 years

Too many people are either for or against renewables for political, emotional, or quasi-religious reasons. They cherry pick "facts" to support their POV. If renewables are judged solely on their merits using completely objective scientific metrics and true factual data, the results are this...

Spain to dismantle over 30% of wind turbines in next 5 years

In the case of Palo Verde, it's not practical. District heating must be incorporated into a city's design from the early stages in order to be viable, the heat source must be local to the buildings, and the necessity is largely driven by the local climate. In Arizona, winters are short and the...

Spain to dismantle over 30% of wind turbines in next 5 years

I suppose I should point out that the largest nuclear power plant in the United States, which also happens to have the highest net generation of all power plants in the US, Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. It is located in the middle of a desert. There are no rivers, and obviously no ocean...

    What's in your grease gun???

I finally got the 6 tubes of Timken Wheel bearing & Chassis grease that I ordered last November. Loaded my red grease gun with a cartridge and greased up my TRE's and DLE's.

    1995 Cummins 6B5.9, 15882 miles, VPB 15W-40

I agree that a certain amount of oil consumption can be normal, but excessive consumption is a sign of a problem.

    1995 Cummins 6B5.9, 15882 miles, VPB 15W-40

Keep in mind that my engine is in a Blazer, albeit with a heavily modified frame and chassis. It only grosses about 7k. With a 12k fiver and your truck's curb you are grossing at least 20.5k. Besides weight, you have air resistance to contend with and you will be towing in mountains part way...

    1995 Cummins 6B5.9, 15882 miles, VPB 15W-40

Sorry for the delayed reply. I've been out of commission for the last couple months. Despite the Cummins spec, I consider a quart every 1500 miles as unacceptable. Thankfully, my oil consumption isn't internal to the engine. It isn't rings or valve guide seals. Its just a turbo issue. Pretty...

    What's in your grease gun???

I got the Spicer SPL1051 grease and loaded it in a new Lincoln grease gun. It's a blue-green color. That is odd, because the grease that Spicer puts in their US-made SPL series u-joints from the factory is red. Besides being synthetic, it uses a calcium sulfonate soap. That should give it...

    SN Rating vs Ford Spec

It's not listed anywhere on RK's web site. In any case, even if RK does have it, that's useless to me. There are no RK's on my side of the Rockies.

    SN Rating vs Ford Spec

Mobil lists the MX F2 as a current product, but good luck finding any. It's like trying to find hen's teeth, or frog's hair, or an honest politician.

Priming the oil filter on a 6.7 Cummins and then screwing it on..

I dunno. When I fill my filter I get oil pressure within 2-3 seconds after starting the engine. When I havent filled it, I start getting pretty nervous by the time pressure starts to register. Maybe 6-8 seconds? Question is, is any real wear done in those 6-8 seconds? Probably not. But my...

Priming the oil filter on a 6.7 Cummins and then screwing it on..

Im a bit late chiming in here, but the Cummins B/ISB 5.9's and 6.7's are actually easy to change filters on. It's when they're in a Dodge/Ram truck that they become a PITA. This is due to how the automaker laid out and/or routed components under the hood. It's unfortunate, really, because the...

    1995 Cummins 6B5.9, 15882 miles, VPB 15W-40

The turbo seals were replaced when I got the engine ready to swap. That was maybe 60,000 miles ago. So, the seals don't really have that many miles on them.
