I use the NOCO oil based protectant. Not sure it's anything other than a flowable grease, but the one little can sure lasts for a lot of batteries. It does warm up and will eventually make a mess, but there isn't a lot of crustyness happening on my batteries...

I use Google Keep on my phone to take a photo of the VIN plate with tire sizes for each vehicle, and then I add in the common part numbers so I have them handy. Works well for filters, headlights, wiper sizes, etc.
