Under the valve cover - 2016 CRV

Question for anyone else who has worked on this Earth Dreams engine before. It looks like I have some seepage from my valve cover gasket that I don't recall seeing before. I did use Motoseal for the four areas where the castings meet in addition to a new Honda VC gasket. Any tips for if I...

I agree. So just sharing my observations, but nothing can be conclusive at this point.

Under the valve cover - 2016 CRV

I am not a member there, but have viewed a few of the threads when I was looking for information. I did read up on the VTC actuator, and it seems like the spring fix has mixed results. I looked at the Honda TSB for several things, and looks like its just open ended, feels like they were...

Under the valve cover - 2016 CRV

That's my plan going forward I think. Yes, looks pretty much the same. Just read that thread and seems like it's a low flow area. I have the startup rattle but haven't gotten into changing the tensioner or the cam actuators or springs. Maybe someday if it really bugs me, but it sounds like...

Under the valve cover - 2016 CRV

Yup, plugs and valve adjustment at 105k. No idea if anyone usually bothers, but most of mine were tight so I feel better that I was in there anyway. Next up is the CVT filters and trying to see why it looks like my alternator bracket is leaking...

Under the valve cover - 2016 CRV

I did have oil burning on that first 5k interval. Not sure if it was a known issue by the PO or just as a result of switching oils. What I drained out was very black, almost reminded me of diesel oil. The was a fair bit of specs of carbon in the filter when I cut it open,.so I'm guessing the...

Under the valve cover - 2016 CRV

Had a chance to finally do some maintenance on the new to me CRV we picked up last fall. Has about 116k on it. Previous owner had it serviced at the dealer it's whole life following the maintenance minder. I needed to adjust the valves, replace the spark plugs and put in a new PCV. The PCV...

2022 Subaru Impreza Front Brake Pad recommendation?

I was very happy with the set of Bosch Quietcast pads and rotors for the back of my Forester. Excellent fit and finish, no issues or squeaking with them. I was big on the Element3 line but was really unhappy with the last set I had used. Mirrors some of the others here that had problems...

Lucas 85w-140 Gear Oil - 4 Gallons at Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Lucas-Oil-Products-10045-85w140/dp/B00B9GPEI2 Price is showing as $41.99 for four gallons of 85w-140. Not sure if this is a decent product for what someone needs, but not a bad price for brand name gear oil if you need that weight. Not sure if its a price mistake or...

Noxudol is really cheap on ebay

Any idea what happens if you mix the Noxudol with some WoolWax? I had my vehicles sprayed with the WoolWax this year, but when I did my winter tire swap noticed all of the spots that they didn't get to... Im tempted to get a case of the Noxudol 700 spray to do inside the doors and some of the...

    Subaru Extra MT Alternatives?

So you are using both products? How is the shifting feel for you? Do you see any cold temperatures routinely? Cold weather shifting is the issue I have run into with a previous transmissionmission oil change, getting into second was almost impossible you were at a complete stop or had driven...

    Subaru Extra MT Alternatives?

Ok, so any thoughts if I am looking at the HPL product offerings if I can use manual transmission life, or need to stick with differential life for my Subaru? Since its a six pack I might also try to see what I can use for the transfer case and rear diff on my 2017 Sienna...

    Battery Terminal Anti-Corrosive

I use the NOCO oil based protectant. Not sure it's anything other than a flowable grease, but the one little can sure lasts for a lot of batteries. It does warm up and will eventually make a mess, but there isn't a lot of crustyness happening on my batteries...

Stubby 1/2 inch impact wrench with 400 ft lb break out torque

I shouldn't be reading this thread.... I have the Milwaukee 12v stubby impact.and ratchet, and also a big Ridgid 18v impact. The DeWalt 921 might be a nice mid-torque option, but I don't have anything in that battery system... But maybe I should start...

    generic maintenance log?

I use Google Keep on my phone to take a photo of the VIN plate with tire sizes for each vehicle, and then I add in the common part numbers so I have them handy. Works well for filters, headlights, wiper sizes, etc.
