    Rotella T6; 15,000mi 1990 Porsche 911

This is the second sample on this oil, taken immediately prior to a change. Here is the first sample. Total consumption over 15k is ~4qt, which I'm sure contributes to the oil longevity. I'm pleased with these results and will continue to use this oil on 15k intervals.

    What next for 04 CRV?

Here's my last UOA, 10k miles on GTX 5W30. As you can see, it was pretty good (and the second 10k interval for that oil type/weight). Per the requests in that thread, I had a good look inside the VC (only thru the fill-hole though) and it looks fine to me; a little varnish, but absolutely no...

    Rotella T6; 8300mi 1990 Porsche 911

This is Rotella T6 at 8300 miles in my 1990 Porsche Carrera 4. I did not change the oil or the filter. Porsche's rec is ~12k miles on synthetic oil, and as a) lots of my miles are highway, and b) I'm adding roughly 1 qt every 3000 miles (it's a leaker; many of this vintage are) my goal is 15k...

    10k mi GTX 5w30 '04 CRV

I used Castrol GTX on my '04 CRV from 90-100k. Sump is 5.6qt, makueup oil was .5l. Lab was Polaris IN. Honda's recommended interval is 10k.

Longer lasting bronze bearing rehab for box fan...

Hiya, I use a really nice old box fan for whole-house ventilation during the dog days of summer. It's three-speed, reversible, and has a thermostat and a baffled box for efficiency (meaning that there's a sheet in the box with a circular hole in it to close up the box around the fan blade...)...

Refreshing CV Joint grease without removal?

I've got a beater subaru that has over 210k on the clock. It's rusty, and not worth any sort of extensive or expensive solution. One of the rear CV's is starting to make noise, and since there is no way I am going to R&R it I figure the next best thing is to make sure there's at least _some_...

easy route to more snowblower power? (2 stroke mods...)

I bought an aged snowblower from the old lady across the way (package deal with her lawn mower) and it's almost gutless enough to be a waste of time. No throttle on it, and it'll bog in 3.5" of wet snow. Is there an easy way to make the motor spin faster? I really don't know how the speed is...

Craftsman/Tech mower leaking at oil fill

I just bought a 9 y/o 5.5hp Craftsman mower (Techumseh engine) and of course the first thing I did was change the oil and scrape the deck. **** Mobil 1; it's coming out everywhere now, lol... The worst offender seems to be at the joint where the oil fill/dipstick tube enters the motor proper...

    M1 15w50: Minimum use temperature?

Pour point is listed as -45C; I like this oil in my turbo Miata because anything thinner gets burned up. I do drive it some in the winter time, but never when it's nasty out and if it's really cold I'm just as likely to take the Audi which has better heat. How low (ambient temp wise) can I go...

Thinning or replacing Delvac 1300 for winter?

The owners manual for my winter car, an '87 Audi 4000 Quattro, allows the use of 15w50 down to 0F. I sometimes take in on winter trips, though, and it can be exposed to overnight lows lower than that. 10w30 or 40 is good to -10F, and 5w30 to -20F. This car burns some oil, even running the...

Diesel Top End Cleaning? (very dirty pictures inside :) )

Have any of you veteran experimenters done mist-based top engine cleaning on a diesel vehicle? The VW TDI is known for intake-tract deposits: (EGR Plenum, just upstream of intake manifold) (Inlet to intake manifold, just downstream of EGR plenum) (View of intake valve, taken through intake...

    Done with M1 0w40

I thought this stuff sounded so good, too! I was using it in my 12psi turbocharged Miata, which has approx 220hp at the wheels. Mostly a daily driver, I do take it for lapping sessions at the local tracks. The problem is consumption, and the consumption pattern. I just got back from a 5000mi...

    New Grease for Old Saw

I'll be using my grandfathers old saw to build a new front porch early this fall. The build code indicates it was assembled in August of 1960, implying that the 'lifetime' lubrication is approximately 43 years old. I took it apart and looked at it's guts. While the old grease was really in...

thin sticky grease for tight spot?

The distributor on my '87 Audi 4000 quattro started making a bad bearing noise recently, so I pulled it out to have a look-see. There wasn't excessive play in the shaft, so I surmised that the bushing was just dry. The lower end is oiled from a pool in the head, but there's not really any active...

    Oversize Supertech for '94 Miata?

I'm doing an Auto-RX flush on my Miata, and bought a couple of 'stock' Supertech filters (2808?) to use for that process- dinky! After 250 miles my fears were confirmed and my oil pressure is lower than it is normally running M1 10w30 and a PureOne 14459. I'd like to swap the ST out for a larger...

Dragboat- Syngear II in Miata trans?

Hiya! In this thread Dragboat sez: "Absolute difference in shifting a Miata trans with the Syngear vs another brand synthetic gear oil in the Miata here we own. This one was supposed to have been fixed under warranty" second gear hub and slider tolerances too close" makes for hard shift to 2nd...
