Question about rust prevention: do you absolutely HAVE TO remove the rust first..? Can you get away with leaving what's there and then adding a coat?

I bought a 7 year old/80k mi Michigan CRV in 2011. Once I had it home I got underneath for an initial inspection. Pretty rusty, surface wise. I sprayed it with CorrosionX once or twice a year until I sold it in 2017. In that time the rust advanced, but far far far more slowly than it would have...

    06 Civic, Bad Catalytic Converter?

+1 others; no immediate risk, could go forever with that condition (or plug up). I'll add a rec for a vigorous Italian tune up. Fully warm engine, run to redline in the first three gears, repeat as desired.

    Head lamp Recommendations

I've had a string of Petzl AAA units over the last 20 years or so, until I found the BudgetLightForum and fell into the rabbit hole. Now I have and use regularly a Skilhunt H03 while the Petzls sit in a drawer until someone needs a loaner. The Skilhunt is cheap and tough and does what I need...

Bam wrx dead. Need a suitable rep

Completely empathize, you and me both. My goals for '21 are simply stated: manage the challenges, stay positive, and make forward progress. Probably will spend a fair amount of time with my head down wondering wth.

    Cosmoline Failure?

One of the reasons I use CorrosionX; it's chemically more attracted to the metal than the water, so it'll stay next to the metal with any water on top of the CX. Won't stay on in a slipstream, but in the door, no issue, and it'll also creep into any voids in the bottom weld seam which IMO is...

Walnut oil is what I use on my wood-handled knives; it's a hardening oil like Tung or boiled Linseed.

Bam wrx dead. Need a suitable rep

Props for not getting rattled, OP; glad you're ok. I've noticed that the *****ead quotient has gone way up online since Covid. 6 cyl NA Cayman would be my vote, probably with PDK. ETA: the censored bit is the colloquial word for the tip of your junk; rhymes with dikhed.

    JDM engines in USDM cars

Not sure if your inquiry is Subaru-specific, but since you labeled it a "general topic..." I put a JDM-exclusive K20a and associated 6 speed manual (from the early aughties Civic R) into our 2005 Civic SI hatch. Pros: Way better engine than stock; *way* (+60HP). 8600 RPM redline. 6-speed w/...

    Brake Bleeding

FWIW I routinely wrap teflon tape around the bleeders. Makes a little mess when you take it out but once back in there's no worry about it sucking air.

Best performing all weather tire for snow

In maybe '15 I had a girlfriend who needed tires for her AWD Honda Element and I convinced her to get the Nokian WR SUV; I don't recall the number. Before those tires wore out she replaced the Element with an AWD '15 RDX that was still riding on the OEM tires. She drove those for less than a...

    galvanized trailer

If there are hollow members in the trailer I'd use CorrosionX there for sure as it will flow out and cover the interior surface of the tube better than the lanolin products IME. Also IME it's not great for any place that's right in the windstream; IIRC even the Heavy Duty won't stay on places...
