Toyota 0w-20 SM, 6,762 km, 2010 RAV4 4-Cyl

I am in a similar boat - High Si and metals, while intake system looks CLEAN. Most members here say "go find a vacuum leak" while one or 2 say 'don't worry about it'. Good luck!

    ATF for Nissan 5-spd auto

I can get to the ATF cooler lines pretty easily, was considering attempting a true "flush" with new fluid while vehicle was running. Worth the hassle?

    ATF for Nissan 5-spd auto

I have a 2008 Quest minivan with the 3.5VQ motor and 5spd auto. Manual says use only Nissan K-Matic. We are at 55k miles on the vehicle, powertrain warranty expires @ 60k. I am tempted to run some Auto-RX for a few thousand miles, then switch to Amsoil ATF. Sound like a good plan? I'd like to...

    Best Eco Wagon?

I'm partial to the Mazda3 wagon. Mazda5 wagon (slide doors, 3rows of 2 seats) are cool if more space needed. I like Mazda's fun-to-drive factor. Honda Fit is pretty darn awesome too, slightly smaller but amazingly huge inside for how small a vehicle it is. Fun to drive too.

High silicon, bearing wear in 2008 Nissan 3.5 VQ

I don't buy the assertion the Nissan filter would do a better job than the Amsoil - standard paper vs. the nano-pixie majic.

High silicon, bearing wear in 2008 Nissan 3.5 VQ

I had figured the high Silicon was a fluke - chaged the air filter, inspected the intake system, and let it rip. I'm a bit more concerned now. QUESTION: Assuming the vehicle had run inexpensive dino oil for the first 35k of it's life, and the fancy Castrol is doing it's de-sludging trick...

High silicon, bearing wear in 2008 Nissan 3.5 VQ

I've run Napa Gold or M1 oil filters. These are 'good', correct? Air filter/intake: the van was a previous rental. It had oil change records for every 3-4k since new. Worst that could have happened to it was 1) not broken in nicely 2) run with loose or no air filter for an interval.

High silicon, bearing wear in 2008 Nissan 3.5 VQ

grrr... 2nd time of high silicon! We bought the vehicle with 35k, I immediately changed to Castrol Syntec 0W30 and ran about 10k. High silicon, etc. Changed air filter to Amsoil ‘nano-filter’ at 45k (old filter was OEM type paper, looked fine) inspected the intake system, looks clean as a...

    2002 Mazda Protege 5 2.0l 5-spd German Castrol

Are the HKS-style foam filter better - any feedback? I like the power and sound of the cold intake system, but grit in the engine is an unacceptable price...

    2002 Mazda Protege 5 2.0l 5-spd German Castrol

First time UOA posting - please give me guidance! [/img] Copper and Silicon are high and have been high. This car has a k&n cone filter on an aftermarket intake (for the last 40k) which is the only way sand could be getting into the engine I can come up with. The intake system is tight...

Proposals for the Laws of Oil Change

    12) The plug is always on there a bit tighter than expected, even if you were the last person to change the oil. You will use progressively bigger wrenches, and wriggle yourself into progressivly more interesting shapes, to apply enough force to the wrench to loosen. And when it does finally...

    yet another GC question...

thanks guys - upon further reading, I realized I shoulda done the further reading first I cleaned out the local Autozones of the Gold GC last night. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'm happy to stick with the gold GC based on it's continued excellence.

    yet another GC question...

I've been using GC, the "green stuff", in the daily drivers for a couple years now with great results and nice UOA's. I really like how it quieted down the somewhat thrashy Mazda motor. On both cars, I cannot tell the difference in motor noise after an oil change, which tells me (as does the...
