    Havoline SM and 1qt Redline

I've been looking around and found that Havoline is a pretty decent dino. They use a good hit of Moly in their SM formula. Would this be a good candidate for 1qt dose of Redline 5W30 to further boost this oils already capable package? The simialrity in formualtion for use of Moly leads me to...

    Toytota tranny seeping

I have an 05 Corolla 5Speed, and today when i took the car in for servie they noticed that the transmission had a small weeping past the akle where it goes into the transmission. Now, since the oil was clean it appears it's recent. Two things to note. 1) I've had Amsoil MTG 75W90 in the case...

    Best gas in Ohio

I will be heading to Columbus Ohio in mid May to go to the NHRA meet there. While I am in the area, what are the best stations to buy gas from? Not very familiar with the options in the states. Thanks in advance!

    Teaching to drive standard

The other day I was teaching the GF to drive stick on my Corolla 1ZZ-FE 5speed. Yeah I know She gently stalled the car "many" times, and several times she lugged the car to the point of audible detonation. What, if any, damaged would or could I expect? I honeslty don't think it will have any...

    05Corolla Air Filters

I've used the OE Denso the car came with and it seems ok. I switched to the WIX/NAPA GOLD 6834 and loved the silicone frame that seals the air box well. When I removed the filter and intake piping today I saw no dirt on the throttle plate area or intake piping. A good thing for sure. That filter...

From Amsoil MTG to Redline MT-90

I will be switching from Amsoil MTG to Redline MT-90 very shortly. It seems in the warmer weather a little grinding is coming back to my Corolla 5spd. My question is this. I bought only 2qts of MT-90 and it may fall just a hair short by like 100ml of a fill. Would you: A) Top it off with...

    Reline 5W30 in a 05 Corolla

Now before I get to my question I know that these 1ZZ-FE engines are very easy on oil. I could be using a semi syn or even a dino, but I prefer the extra protection benefit of a syn. To me, the extra cost is piece of mind. Right now I'm using Mobil 1 5W30. I've read all the UOA's and Mobil...

    Amalie Oil

While watching an IHRA event on TV the other day I saw an oil name I've never seen before. Amalie Oil http://www.amalie.com/specsheets/1_pcmo.pdf What's up with this stuff. I've searched and found nothing about this oil on this site. Mind you I'm not interested in using it, I'm just...

    MMO and chlorinated concerns

I have been reading around and heard good things about it. I decided that I'd try it in small 2oz/10gal doses, in my Yota and the g/f Sentra. My decision was based on my precious use of Lucas being very thick in the cold. I've recently run across a few posts that tell of cholrinated contents...

    Castrol 5W50 in a 1ZZ-FE

A guy I know at work was told by his (non toyota) mechanic to run 5W-50 in his new 03 Pontiac Vibe using the vernerable 1.8L 1ZZ-FE motor. I think that for the winter time when temps fall to -30F at times, that this oil is far too thick for this motor. What are your thoughts. He seems to be...

    UCL's in cold weather

Here's a question. I use Lucas UCL in maintenance doses for every tank in my Corolla. Now it's getting colder, and eventually it will reach the -30's. Does an additive like Lucas settle out of suspension in the fuel in the real cold? Lucas rep says it should be ok, but I still wonder. Thoughts.

    Which oil will pump easier?

I have some options available to me for my Corolla 1ZZ-FE 1) Mobil 1 5W30 2) Amsoil ASL 5W30 These oils are easy enough for me to get my hands on. I am wondering this for those morinings where it's -38F, and I can't be near a power outlet for my block heater. Is there a place where I can...

Castrol Syntec 5W30 in 05 Corolla

I have recently purchased an 05 Corolla with the 1ZZ-FE engine. I have bouhgt some Castrol Syntec 5W30 for the cars first oil change after the factory oil comes out at 1600km (1000mi). I will only be running the Syntec for about 3500km (2170mi). Does anyone know what the specs are on this oil...

    M1 0W40 to GC 0W30

I recently happened upon some M0502 batch GC at Canadian Tire here in Nova Scotia. My car has a 4.2L oil change with filter, but 4.7L dry sump. Would this little left over 0W40 with only 5000km on it be of any concern to me in the switch to GC. I found the 0W40 to be a bit too thick at high...

    QR25DE loves the 0W-40

I just switched from Mobil 1 5W-30 and put in Mobil 1 0W-40. My timing chain clatter during cold starts has been significantly reduced. The motor runs quieter, and surprisingly... my coolant temp has dropped a bit as well maybe due to better lubrication I'm not complaining! I've also noticed...

Dodge Neon burning a little oil.

This is a friend of a friend in need. This car over it's 50,000+km of life so far has seen some abuse with not changing oil on a regular basis. I think that the little oil she is burning could possibly be an issue with stuck rings. I would recommend her to run a HDEO oil that is easy to find to...

    QR25DE and Mobil 1SS 0W-40

Well, I went ahead and bought 5L of Mobil 1 SS 0W40 to give it a try. I got a really good price! What would people in here expect me to experience over my 12,000km run. I'm hoping for a smoother running engine, maybe just a small loss of fuel efficeincy. My manual says the car can take 10W-40...

Mobil 1 Truck & SUV not GF-3 rated

I juts got off the phone with Mobil 1 Technical support and I asked them if it was ok to run the Truck & SUV 5W-40 in my car. They said that "it may meet viscosity ratings for the car, but it doesn't meet ILSAC GF-3 for emmisons components". So wouldn't be good for catalytic converters and...

    Thoughts for Nissan QR25 owners

Since the QR25 has a set of counter-rotating balance shafts in the oil pan (for NVH reduction)that spin at twice engine speed. I am wondering if my Mobil 1 5w-30 or 10w-30 choice is wrong? For now, I will run 5w-30 for this oil change, I can't return it now....plus the car is still breaking...
