If you don't have a full-year tax liability of as much as the credit, regardless of how much you may have paid in to any particular point, that will limit the benefit to you. (old rules. New rules don't require an offseting tax liability but do introduce income limits)

Or just get it back when you file for a refund. You would have just simply overpaid when considering the credit due you so you are due a refund.

I will be happy to report back the experience over time with the Escape. Now to sell a fairly well worn Subie.. in normal times it probably would barely be worth $2k. Now ? $4-$5k I think.

Congrats. How was the pricing compared to list (not counting doc fee, tax, motor vehicle) I paid 4% under invoice on my '22 Mustang in February + a rebate. Ordered Escape plug-in at 3% under invoice + rebate. Patience pays off.

Absolutely, tons of friction. But we sold the first 20-month old one and then cleared about $8k on the next two cars, after all fees, tax, motor vehicle fees. If we didn't have to keep paying sales tax there would have been $10k more in our pockets. You're welcome Gov'n Murphy.
