    Hi everyone! ZDDP question

in numerous vintage cars*** I use Mobil 1 0w-40 in cold weather and above 40 F I use Mobil 1 15w-50. Plenty of zinc / phosphorus in both of them for flat tappet engines. Never had any oiling issues. Z *** I've used those oils for 15-20 years in Jaguar e types, XK-120 & 150's, MGA's, Austin...

Really now, none of those illustrations have a passing resemblance to an actual PCV valve cone taper, which provides a much different operation that your simplistic explanation is capable of conveying. Z

Massive oil consumption from towing a trailer

It closes, but not 100%, when the vacuum is very low, or very high. So at high load, or at idle, at PCV is flowing much less than it does at cruising load & moderate rpm. If you take one apart you can see the cone shape that rises up, and that seals off more flow as the vacuum rises above a set...

Massive oil consumption from towing a trailer

I think the correct engineering of the baffle arrangement in the valve cover has more to do with how much oil gets thru the PCV valve and into the catch can or intake manifold, than how much high rpm driving is done. Some cars never pass oil into the intake manifold and do quite nicely without a...

    Oil for old smallblock?

Been using Mobil 1 15w-50 in numerous vintage autos for over 16 years and many tens of thousands of miles. Never had a single cam / lifter failure. It has plenty of zddp (1300/1200 ppm ) for flat tappet engines. Here is short list of cars I have used it in: Shelby Cobra (original) 289's and...
