Is there such a thing as an unreliable U.S. new car today?

As mentioned in my original post. Our Jeep Compass which made everyone's list of a vehicle not to own performed flawlessly for >100 k miles now. Same personnel drove the fleet of 4X4 domestic pickup trucks in the same terrain and had significantly more problems. I don't know what to think.

Rental Car review 22 Jeep Compass

Mentioned in another thread we had a 4x4 Compass as a company vehicle. It proofed to be at least as reliable as the other domestic vehicles we had. >100k miles without any failures ... just regular maintenance. I expected pure junk, but it served us well.

Traded in the Sonata for a Malibu. Dealership issue.

How's the visibility in the new Malibu? Do the real parking sensors perform as advertised?

Is there such a thing as an unreliable U.S. new car today?

    Well that's disheartening.

Is there such a thing as an unreliable U.S. new car today?

I suspect even a newer Nissan CVT would last if maintained and gently used.

Is the performance difference significant with the 1.5t in the malibu vs equinox?

    2024 Altima S vs 2024 Malibu LS

That wouldn't be a deal breaker, but it would be nice to have. Just discovered a big plus in the Altima's favor ... apparently it does NOT have auto start/stop

    2024 Altima S vs 2024 Malibu LS

Pretty sure the Malibu is going away after this model year, or at least in its current barebones configuration. Not sure of the Altima's future. On a side note, I'm surprised to read the support for the Malibu. I thought the Altima would be a runaway winner being as the Chevy hasn't been...

    2024 Altima S vs 2024 Malibu LS

Thanks, that's a consideration too. My back and neck are a mess, hence the desire for the rear remote parking sensors. Having a comfortable seat would also be nice. I was under the impression the Malibu was a more comfortable car than the Altima ... forgot about those zero gravity seats...

    2024 Altima S vs 2024 Malibu LS

No need for AWD in New Orleans. MDX and new CRV are considerably more than a Malibu LS ... apples and oranges Don't believe the base Sonata or K5 have rear parking sensors. I realize the Camry and Accord are superior, but neither base model has rear parking sensors and paying $6-8k more for...

    2024 Altima S vs 2024 Malibu LS

Roughly you can purchase the Malibu LS in the 22-23k range (Corolla/Sentra territory). The Altima S in the 24-25k range. Base Accords and Camrys are $29-30k. I'm an ultra-low commuter, e.g. 2-3k miles a year, paying a premium for a car that will last >100k miles won't affect me for the next...

    2024 Altima S vs 2024 Malibu LS

If you didn't want to pay Camry/Accord prices for a base model sedan which, would you choose for a daily commuter?

Do AWD subcompact & compact SUVs/Crossovers have a more robust undercarriage or suspension than their 2WD counterpoints?

Well the Subarus are all AWD and Mazda is trending that way with very few AWD options.

Do AWD subcompact & compact SUVs/Crossovers have a more robust undercarriage or suspension than their 2WD counterpoints?

Trying to justify considering AWD models, e.g. Subaru CrossTrek and Mazda CX-30 although I will likely never use AWD in the deep south.

    2023 1.5/CVT Malibu Rental car.

Agreed! The reviews talk about the "dated" Malibu design and how it's now competitive with the segment leaders, e.g. Accord, Camry, K5, etc ... But in real world pricing (Not MSRP) you can get one for up to $10k cheaper, so it's not really an apple-to-apple comparison.
