Ecodiesel Gen II oil filter full of carbon dust.

Here’s what mine looked like, jeeps and Rams have a different pickup, but you can see the beginning of the formation to block the pickup screen, lower oil pan is very easy to remove luckily.

    Dexos D alternative

When the Ecodiesel debuted they recommended Euro L 5w30 (C3) oil analysis never looked great. I’d ran mine with Mobil Delvac 1 LE 5W30 its a “low saps” oil, meets ACEA E6 and now E9 categories, also meets CK4/SN. Theres also Rotella T6 5W30 “multi vehicle”, similar design oil. Ran my...

Ecodiesel Gen II oil filter full of carbon dust.

Unfortunately the VM L630 engine dubbed “Ecodiesel - GEN II” doesn’t have a stellar reliability reputation. Theres quite a few over 300k miles. Gen III 2020-2024 ecodiesels have had a better reputation. Often when an Gen II engine fails, the main bearings spin, starves the rod bearing and the...

Ecodiesel Gen II oil filter full of carbon dust.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 Ecodiesel 188k miles Just completed walnut blasting the intake ports, replacing the glow plugs, water pump, oil cooler, and all the usual rubber hoses. Took it on a 600 mile trip, no issues, dropped off at dealer for Z46 HP fuel pump recall. Got it back pulled the...

    15W-40 Oil in a generator?

I’ve run 0W40 T6 in my Generac 17kW (air cooled), also ran 0W40 T6 in my ecotec 2.2, analysis came back with great results. That oil is becoming hard to find since AAP stopped selling it.

Mobil Delvac Extreme 15w-40 5.7k mi; Ram EcoDiesel 83k

    15W-40 Oil in a generator?

Ahhhh well I don’t think you’ve seen too many stand by back up generators. Any liquid cooled back up generator i’ve seen has a jacket water heater, basically a small Globe looking heater with water lines attached to it to keep the engine at 125*F, it’s function actually circulates water inside...

15/40 CNG engine oil in a gasser?

Most likely it will work fine, whats different? Gas/LNG engine oil has about 500-600 ppm zinc/phos The duration of LNG engines is usually very long and large bore sizes which tend to use more oil, the oil is formulated with low ash (zinc phos) to avoid combustion chamber deposits that cause...

    10w40 over 5w30 diesel

Ran 10W40 Mystik JT8 in my Ecodiesel, the 5 gallon pails were too cheap to pass up. Wouldn't hesitate to run again provided it's not freezing ambient cold starts.

Is Mobil 1 advanced synthetic a full synthetic?

The marketing person in me is seeing Mobil1 silver cap less and less relevant in the lineup, all their products are based around a use interval except for M1 silver cap. It's just an original product with a good history, but could easily be rebranded with the "Mobil super synthetic" label...

Is Mobil 1 advanced synthetic a full synthetic?

I guess you could say Castrol took Mobil1 to school on marketing "synthetic oil", it's like the marketing strategists took over when they came out with the M1 Extended Performance and now Annual Performance Oil. It seems the PAO base oils are at a decent level with these higher grade M1...

    Brakes failing randomly

When I was a mechanic anytime someone said the brake pedal went to the floor = installing a new master cylinder, whether needs one or not. Check for corroded/leaking brake lines/calipers/wheel cylinders. Make sure the new master cylinder is bench bleed, and the lines are properly bleed after...

is all diesel fuel now b5?

Northern Wisconsin Shell stations I see labels on the diesel pumps "non bio diesel, includes schaeffer lubrication additive" ; I had the best mpg with this diesel. Kwik Trip stations in WI reportedly the diesel comes from a refinery in MN, does not contain bio diesel. They have regular #2...

    Castrol GTX Diesel 15W-40, CK4

Good to see an oil with a decent additive package and a nice dose of moly, where many of the 15W40's are switching to a 800ppm zinc/phos package, even a recent Delvac 1300 UOA looks lean on additives. May try this oil.

Amsoil discontinues ACD SAE 30/10w30 HDEO

Another CI4 oil bites the dust, wonder if there's compilance pressure to discontinue high ash oil? or simply lack of sales volume? Unfortunate I always wanted to try this oil in my ecodiesel. Never saw steller UOA results from ACD, but never saw enough UOA data to make a consensus.

Oil that won't clog the catalytic converter?

Do you have any oil loss between oil changes? I would do a cylinder leakage test to see if you have a bad cylinder. Sounds like you need to change the catalytic converter, I wouldn't recommend changing a low ash oil ACEA C1,C2,C3, it's really splitting hairs, those oils tend to have higher...

Shell Rotella T6 0W40 Arctic Blend low saps API SN

Whats more important to you your engine wear or catalytic converter degredation? I put 0W40 T6 in my daily driver, and btw the jugs of 0W40 T6 I purchased said CJ4/SN on them, still actually rated for gas engines, old stock maybe?
