Audi/VW pinch bolts for upper control arm.

If it puts up a fight, snap the head off of the bolt and use the nut to draw it out the other side. Use wheel bearing grease on the threads and stack washers when you run out of threads. Did many of these back in the day on A6 and allroads, unfortunately you cannot get a good angle to use an air...

    Budget struts?

+1 on the FCS from Rock Auto. Did all 4 corners on the minivan and will be doing fronts on the Acadia tomorrow. RA is great if there's a warranty issue.

2014 Odyssey Right Side Suspension Play?

My 2013 has the same noise issues, and even though the bushings pass a visual test I can get them to deflect too easy with a pry bar. I have the bushings just haven't had time to install them. More noise on the passenger side then driver's.

Strange filter location in oil pan on my Grand Am

Worked at a full service station from 89-92 while in high school and it seemed like everyone in the area had and Iron Duke with that filter, mom's car included. it's not bad when on a lift, but on your back in the garage not so much.

2015 Odyssey - Most expensive brake service ever...

2 sets of twin girls on her own? She must be a saint. I used the Raybestos EHT for 60k miles without issue, granted NE WI is pretty flat. We did take several trips to TN and FL that included mountain driving. I now have Duralast pads and rotors, mainly because they went with the updated design...

Audi 01E gearbox oil and B5 S4 rear diff oil

if you plan on any cold weather driving, go with Ravenol 75W. it's what I used in my 2005 allroad. I'm local to Blauparts so I can do pickup, their shipping can be a deal breaker. I went to them asking for the 75W-90 and they recommended the 75W...

    Tapered Pad Wear

something is allowing the caliper to flex, is all well on the knuckle? in my mind if the caliper goes off axis to the rotor, the pad on the piston will move with the rotor but the pad stuck to the caliper ears will not be able to follow the rotor. is the wheel bearing loose causing the rotor to...

Share Your Oil Consumption if Any

The 3 cars in my signature consume no measurable oil between changes, which ranges from 5k miles in the Audi to 7.5k miles in the Honda. The Acadia falls inbetween. The Honda does have the VCM muzzled. Now my SIL's Audi Q5, whole different story. Current rate of consumption is 1 liter of oil in...

    Changing PTO fluid on ramps?

Depending on when and if the fluid was changed, it may not even be fluid anymore. Owned a 2008 Taurus X and that PTU was grease by the time I got it. I drilled and tapped in a drain plug, then did a couple of flushes, and finally refilled with 75W-140 meant for a Harley Davidson transmission...

What is your shops HDEO bulk oil?

We keep Rotella T1 and T4 in stock for customer oil changes, 15W-40 even in cold weather. All of our lease fleet get winter prep, grill covers and block and fuel tank blankets. We get a rebate from SOPUS if we buy through Navistar, so it just makes sense. Had to do a short run of Delvac when the...

    2015 Odyssey brake service

I just shake my head when one of these threads about Odyssey brakes comes up. I must the one lucky guy. I have the original updated part number on my van for 75k miles with Raybestos Element 3 pads for 45k of that time and have had zero issues. The original part number rotors were garbage, had...

    question about exhaust and turbo

Most turbo car's ECU mapping will run slightly rich at WOT to keep the engine cool under the stress. This will create additional tail pipe output. I've had several twin turbo cars and had all of them aftermarket tuned and requested WOT be richer than what the factory programmed to keep...

    Ridgid tools

Big fan of Ridgid, Have an 8 piece set from 2007 still going strong. the 9.6V battery on the screw gun went bad last month. Called them to get a replacement and since they don't do 9.6V anymore they sent the latest 18V Li-Ion compact impact gun. Brushless and far more ergonomic. Had it 3 days...
