Lubricating bladder in a water pressure tank

I thought that Vaseline was actually nice for o-rings... Well I will try to find a silicone grease. The sprays are nice to use and easy to find but yes I'll look at the carrier (don't know whether that is mentionned on the can though) Thanks for your reply!

Lubricating bladder in a water pressure tank

Hi, I have a water pressure tank with a bladder on the inside. The bladder is made of a gum-like material called butyl. Over time the bladder can break because it folds always at the same places when expanding and retracting. Therefore I'd like to apply some lubricant on it to "feed" the gum as...

Something "loose" in an exhaust silencer

Hi, I must change an exhaust mid silencer on a Volvo S40 due to rust. I found a used silencer in good external conditions from a wreck. The silencer feels solid but when I shake it vigorously I can feel and hear something slightly banging inside it. I know that internal parts can come loose due...

Honda Fit CVT gearoil level question

I checked with a cold engine just after switching it off but the cold level is still too high. I got the car checked by a Honda dealer and the mech says the hot level is ok...so I guess I'm safe

Honda Fit CVT gearoil level question

Good point! I will try that when I get the car back and I'll let you know.

Honda Fit CVT gearoil level question

No, hot reading means checking 60-90 seconds after switching off the engine, as the manual says. Cold reading means (for me) after a night in the garage. The hot reading is fine but not the cold one....

Honda Fit CVT gearoil level question

Yes there are both cold and hot marks on the dipstick. There are 3 marks with the cold max mark corresponding to the hot min mark. When checking the level with a hot transmission, the oil reaches exactly the hot max mark. When cold, the level even exceeds the hot max mark, so it is way off the...

Honda Fit CVT gearoil level question

I check it hot as recommended by Honda. The hot level seems correct but when I attempt to check it cold the level is higher than the max HOT mark...

Honda Fit CVT gearoil level question

Hi, I have a 2007 Honda Fit (Jazz) with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The car has 25000km now and I just changed the gearoil with fresh fluid. The dipstick has cold and hot marks to check the level. Honda recommends to check the gearoil level within 60-90 sec after engine is shut...

    Fuel pressure question

Hi, thanks for the reply. In fact I had to disconnect the vacuum line to the pressure regulator before taking the readings. Now the pressure is 46PSI all the time (idle/revving). The pressure drop at idle is normal if the vacuum line is attached. The only "issue" is that as soon as the pump...

    Fuel pressure question

Hi, I got a new fuel pressure gauge and checked the fuel rail pressure on my 1997 Volvo S40 2.0 petrol (200K miles). This is a normally aspirated engine, not the one available in US. First I released the pressure from the rail before fitting the gauge. Then I turned the key on ignition II to...

    Vacuum gauge: "rough" idle

You seem to be right. I tried again by simply pinching the hose slightly near the vacuum port on the manifold...and got a steady 18" Hg at idle! So the engine appears healthy, especially for a 208K miles old one. Will install a damper valve in the hose next time. Thanks a lot for your help. As...

    Vacuum gauge: "rough" idle

Yes actually many websites explain that rapid fluctuations at idle that vanish when revving up the engine are caused by worn valve guides. However most of these websites mention that the magnitude of the variation is about 5 inches. Since I get about 1 or max 2 inches of variation, I guess I'm...

    Vacuum gauge: "rough" idle

Hi, I just bought a vacuum gauge and tested the manifold vacuum on my 1997 Volvo S40 2.0L petrol engine (normally aspirated). This engine is a 4cyl 1998ccm with 140hp and has now 335000km (208K miles). I brought the engine to operating temp and then hooked up the vacuum gauge on a free inlet...

Test fuel pressure with a tire gauge?

Hi, my car (1997 Volvo S40) has a nipple connector on the fuel rail to check fuel pressure. That nipple is exactly the same as the one on tires. Since I have a tire pressure gauge on my air compressor, I was wondering whether it would be possible to check the fuel pressure SAFELY with that tire...

Is it really good to polish/compoud a car??

Hi, I'm interested in polishing my car using a buffer tool. The techniques usually involves some wet sanding first, then polishing with some compound (2 grades usually) and then finally waxing the car. I've seen some videos and howtos with Meguiar's stuff and it looks really good. However this...

    ARX made my lifters noisy?

I am now 2000km into rinse phase and my lifters are quiet again. In fact the noise was present at the very beginning of the rinse phase but it went away in about 500km after the oil change. I am still running the same 10w40 oil for now and temperatures are way colder outside but tappets remain...
