    DMV experience

When I lived in Charlotte, NC, the county line was just a few miles from my house, so I started going to that (smaller) county DMV. Was in and out in a fraction of the time vs the Charlotte DMVs.

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

Also several instances when you could hear the FO on the CVR warning the captain that he's wrong, and the captain won't listen. Equally heartbreaking.

This is a rental car rant

A Mirage is what it is. That said, if I paid for an intermediate and received a Mirage, I'd be unhappy too. My latest rental was a Nissan Kicks. Served me well but already had electronic gremlins at just over 10K miles. Also didn't care for the auto-brake function and I didn't know if I could...

A new type of security blanket for young people?

Same. When I was in college, the only winter clothing (with the college logo) sold in the bookshop was a hoodie. I bought one and had someone handy with sewing cut off most of the hoodie part and turn it into a proper collar.

Same Car Same Engine, Different Country Different Oil

My thought process was that a 5000-mile OCI didn't need a full syn 0w-20, especially in Florida. When/if I lived in a cooler climate, I would use 0w-20, but first I'd want to use up my stash. And I'm with you; 7500 miles seems like a 'push' for 3 quarts.

Same Car Same Engine, Different Country Different Oil

I'm running 5w-20 in my 2018 Mirage at a 5000-mile OCI. I'm sure 5w-30 would work just fine, but I bought the car for fuel economy. I regularly get 48-49 mpg.

Weeding Out The Bad Fuel Stations

When I first saw this thread, my mind went back to the early '80s when a Direct gas station opened next to the McDonalds in the town I grew up in. The prices were several cents cheaper (per gallon) than the 'name brands' nearby. Keep in mind, back then gas was under a dollar a gallon, so this...

    AMC Pacer

Any 10w30 is fine. A High-Mileage oil might be a good idea.

    2017 Nissan Rogue 2.5 - 5W-30?

5w30 is fine if that's what you want to use.

Fram Extra Guard Vs Tough Guard

I often run 10,000 miles on a EG 7317. No worries.

Would you buy a new Mitsubishi?

I have a 2023 Outlander Sport with the 2.0. The days are long gone since I drove 400+HP hot rods, yet I've never had a situation in my Sport where I wanted more power.

Anyone here had a bad hip replaced?

What is your ortho saying about hip replacement? I had my right hip replaced 7 years ago (arthritis) and my ortho was slightly hesitant because I was "young". I was 54. He also advised that, if I had the means, to take a year off to recover. I was a mechanic, so I just retired on disability. I...

    $2.50 for pump air?

Coming out of Atlanta a year or so ago, I felt the dreaded 'separated belt' tire shake. I nursed it to a familiar exit and pulled into the nearest gas station and put the spare on... which was half inflated. (That's on me) There was an air machine similar to the one in the OP which I used to...

Who's never traveled outside of the United States?

I was in Nova Scotia for several days last month. We got off the highway to get gas and decided to have lunch. The food choices at that exit were Tim Hortons and Wendys. I had already had Tim Hortons that morning, so we went to Wendys and I swear the Wendys food was better in Canada than the US...

Does Vice Grip Garage not know anything about Fram oil filters?

He seems like an OK guy, but I wouldn't put too much stake in someone who doesn't know the difference between gross and net HP.

Was Your Dad or Granddad a Believer in Non-Detergent Motor Oil?

Never had that conversation with my grandparents, unfortunately. Never really had it with my father but do know he was a firm believer in Quaker State. When I was in middle school shop class, in the Fall and Spring we would work on small engines. I brought our mower in to rebuild the engine...

    interesting experience at fuel/convenience station

It's not like you left the store with something you didn't pay for. But... was this the first time in this store??

Do you miss the days of Everything PTFE / Teflon? Any positive snake oil experiences?

When I was in A&P school in the late 80's, I had an instructor that swore by Slick 50. He put it in everything he drove. He was a retired Army helicopter mechanic. He said they would put PTFE in the copter gearboxes in case of lubricant loss. I had no reason not to believe him, but maybe someone...

Ever have to chase passenger out of your seat on airplane ?

Very much. Earlier this month I took a flight (for the first time in over 20 years) with a '2nd tier' airline. Was a long 3 hours. Just could not get comfortable.
