Supertech and other value point oils

How are we this far in, and we haven't asked OP why he was changing the oil on a rental car??

Help me choose the better oil

That's great to hear. Knowing it's GDI, I kind of expected the worst. However 70k in, and it doesn't burn a drop over at least 4500 miles.

    Not another Valvoline R&P thread

The million mile Tundras were done on 0W-20 bulk oil from the dealer. I think driving style makes a huge difference. 99% of his driving was highway driving. He changed at 10k intervals. (He has had two of them now.) Very different maintenance experience compared to the Tundras though...

Help me choose the better oil

Funny seeing these posts immediately adjacent to each other since Glenda developed her problem on Valvoline EP (primarily). Will be interesting to see what you get out of the Rogue. We have a '16 Rogue, and despite dealer changes (and a few dino changes), the engine looks pretty pristine...

Toyota 2GR-FE oil grades in Australia 5W-30 to 20W-50

Good to know. See, look at what a helpful discussion has come out of a post with "no news."

Well you specified on ramps, so I was just clarifying.

    Amsoil Synthetic Blend Engine Oils

I found a few, for anyone else who comes across this thread with a search like I did. 0W-20 in 2014 GMC Sierra 5W-30 in a Tahoe. There's two UOAs in this thread. Seems like some cleaning occurred too. I assume due to the ester content. Interesting results.

Help me choose the better oil

I understand. I looked this up, and it doesn't appear the manual makes any mention of 5W-30. Usually there's always a caveat. Maybe someone with more knowledge on Honda engines will know if they have different recommendations for different countries like Toyota does. As detailed above, the fuel...

0w or 5w-30 with HTHS of 3.5 HTHS or higher

Sorry, just to clarify, which has better base oils? What are the bases for SS and Euro?

I'll hit you up then once I complete my VRP cleanup and use up my stash.

Help me choose the better oil

Lot of people with 5k OCIs who developed oil burning engines would disagree with you. OP, I wish I could have run VRP from new. I would step up a grade with your Honda engine. I think you'll look back and appreciate this decision years from now.

0w or 5w-30 with HTHS of 3.5 HTHS or higher

For some reason I always thought it was more expensive than SS. TIL. I never understood why, even despite the higher HTHS, AMSOIL says SS is their top of the line oil, over Euro. Edit: the LS is more expensive. What's the difference between LS and MS? SAPS level?

Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30. Valvoline themselves says it's their best oil.

    Mobil 1 Undeserved Bad Reputation?

I really think that this was the real person behind the straw man allegations in the original post. "Some say..." Well, it all stems from one guy (and maybe PF's tests putting M1 in the middle of the pack).

Can't decide between Amsoil and Redline

OP probably spent $5-10k in depreciation to drive it off the lot. Even for a car that has depreciated significantly already, one should calculate the difference between a Walmart OTS oil change and a boutique oil change and calculate that as a fraction of their cost of ownership (gas, insurance...

Toyota 2GR-FE oil grades in Australia 5W-30 to 20W-50

Good point on the timing cover leak. Good video on this issue. If you have a 2GR, you might have to drop your engine once, but hopefully only once.

Toyota 2GR-FE oil grades in Australia 5W-30 to 20W-50

It's not news if you've been here a while, but the first time someone new here hears that you can actually use an oil grade different than what is specified (or "recommended" so I don't get corrected) in the manual, it is usually met with trepidation. So it's reassuring to many seeing it in...

Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-40 Dark Color -- could it be fake?

Maybe. But @f355spider has always had a good experience with it shipped from a true retailer. And if you get scammed, you can file a complaint.
