    VIM Tools warranty disappointment

Had a Tekton 1/2" to 3/8" impact adapter break on me (using it with a Makita impact wrench and Tekton 19mm or so impact socket on the Accord's lug nuts), did their online warranty thing Sunday night where you send a picture and the part #. Got a shipment notification for the replacement at no...

Another article showing concern in the housing market- yet the author may have lacked critical thinking

I may be off base but believe any appreciation on your primary home, if lived in for 2 of the past 5 years, is tax free? Are there localities that don't treat it this way?

Another article showing concern in the housing market- yet the author may have lacked critical thinking

2 joints on sale right now in my neighborhood for 15% more than we paid 12 months ago. Both "pending" one on market for 5 days the other for 15. jeff

    Lawn fertilizer question

Not sure what this means. We’re on a friggin motor oil website so advising on the off topic board to take advantage of the available research lol.

    Lawn fertilizer question

x2. For reasons I don’t entirely understand, state universities have excellent resources for homeowner’s landscaping. Maryland has a great website and responsive email address. All sorts of good info.

    Lawn fertilizer question

Get a soil test, that’ll tell you what you need. $25 or so. Anything else is just guessing.

    Arc'teryx Jackets

Good grief, $650 for a jacket made in Vietnam. I have a North Face Apex Bionic 3 made in El Salvador that was $160. Not a rain jacket but has a bit of moisture resistance and has held up great. Love the style and very comfortable, if it’s really cold I have a wool coat or Columbia ski coat...

What are you listening to right now?

My brother reminded me how much I like some of these guys’ music:

Who in BITOG is a world traveler?

Nothing crazy like some of the guys here but I've been to a fair number of places: Canada Guatemala (work) Honduras (work) England France (it's terrific don't listen to the haters lol) Italy (concur with above, Tuscany is, if not the best, nearly the best place on Earth. Splendid. Spent a day on...

    New Furnace question.

This is the real trick, isn't it? How many companies actually will do this vs. just look at what you already have and offer the same? In my experience it was "none" and this seems to be the norm. 2 stage furnace sorta helps wrt oversizing, we had one in our last home and as someone else noted...

    Stereo stuff...

Timely piece in this weekend's Washington Post about a dude who spent $1M on his home music system. Not really about the system itself but more about what this sort of endeavor does to a person and the people around him. Rocking a set of Boston Acoustics VR2s and a VRC (for peanuts via FB...

    Furnace Run Time

Some of this has been covered in the thread or maybe the posted video. On a Honeywell, the CPH is an algorithm parameter that sets the number of cycles the system will run per hour when the demand is 50%. It is neither an upper or lower limit per se. It will indirectly affect the over and...

    Programmable Thermostats

It’s just electric motors, not going to hurt it. It’s harder on it to be turning on and off repeatedly while you’re away than having it run a couple hours straight getting back to the set point. There is no “working hard“ for these things. They’re either on or off running at whatever speed...

Saw a unicorn in the way to work today.....

I saw a Fisker Karma in a Taco Bell drive through in Malibu earlier this year. Don’t often see one of those cars from a defunct maker that got an inordinate amount of press in the car mags. Wonder how many of those were even made. jeff

    Heat Pump Water Heater

Ok so it happened again overnight per the app. Getting error A006 Suction Temperature Too Low, along with a hardware alarm that the filter is clogged. I had them wash the filter off so don’t believe that’s actually the problem. Consistent with the thermistor issue?

    Heat Pump Water Heater

Oooh this is great and timely info. I installed one of these at the mother in law's a few years ago, works great but lately the compressor has been shutting off. Threw some low suction error or something (don't really the number literally just deleted it earlier today), shutting the whole thing...

The bellweather stock I will watch to see how the US and global economy is doing

I live near something called the Clarksburg Premium Outlets in Maryland. (Note “outlets“ are no longer what they were in the beginning, selling old stock and slightly imperfect items at reduced prices) Don’t go often but it’s always got plenty of people and on Black Friday the cars were lined up...
