    Honda OHC Engines in general....

Premium hydraulic tractor fluid or universal tractor oil or UTF is a hydraulic fluid. What sets UTF apart from regular hydraulic fluid is that it is designed for the "wet brakes" you see in compact tractors. It is used as hydraulic fluid in rams, as a transmission fluid and to lubricate the wet...

    Spark plug theory and practice

My lawn mower did not want to start today. Smelled plenty of gas so pulled the plug to take a looksee. It didn't look bad but it didn't look new so I put it back in and tried again. Still didn't start so I replaced the plug. The beast started on the first pull and gave me full power, something I...

    California- WEATHER!

How bad it is depends on who you talk to. It has rained a lot. The hillsides are sliding. Many roads are closed. This in addition to the regular bad drivers. We did get a lot of rain, and there are all the problems associated with too much rain in too short a period of time. I would not call it...

what oil for all of my engines?

Bror Jace - I found the reference I had been looking for. Not sure how credible it is now that I found it. On http://www.jackssmallengines.com/Oil.cfm we see the claim that 10w40 has killed engines in as little as 10 hours. Maybe I am just being paranoid but I still have 4 bottles of mobil 1...

    Why are push mowers 22"

How did he replace them when one broke? I would think that a couple of 2x4's would work better. The front one longer than the width of the two mowers so you can tie a rope or chain to the ends to hook to the atv. The back just long enough to bolt the two togather. Of course you would have to...

what oil for all of my engines?

That's nice oil. It is what I run in everything I own (f350 idi diesel, dodge caravan, kubota tractor) EXCEPT my air cooled engines. Briggs and stratton say DON'T use 15w40 so who am I to argue with the people who made the motor. I use a 10w30 syn like they recommend for all temperature...

    Real horsepower or marketing lies

First a definition. 1HP = 755 watt. Next, no motor is 100% efficient. Hence a good "rule of thumb" is 1hp = 10 amp at 120v, 5 amp at 240v. Of course you use real numbers when it comes down to the nitty gritty, but the rule of thumb will keep you in the proper ballpark. So, while a 5hp motor...

    Delo 400, now with Moly!

Good call. I have a gallon with date code 02/19/03 which is CH-4 rated and the yellow flag note on front saying "Now Meeting Mac EO-N Premius Plus". I have a gallon with date code 09/16/04 which is CH-4 PLUS rated and the yellow flag note on front saying "New low wear formula" Guess they...

Isn't 15w-40 motor oil a bit thick for mowers?

It would depend on the mower. I would not run 15w40 in a briggs and stratton motor, but other manufacturers may permit it. http://www.briggsandstratton.com/display/router.asp?docid=64066 is very specific on what you should and should not use in a briggs and stratton motor. Somewhere on that...

    Need a GL-4 Lube!

I bought a gallon of Sta-Lube SAE 85w90 gl4 gear oil for 17 dollars from the local auto parts store. It was on the shelf right next to a gallon of SAE 80w90 gl5 gear oil which was 18 dollars. Quarts were 7 bucks a bottle and I needed 3 quarts so the gallon was cheaper. I have heard horror...

What's best 2 cycle oil (chainsaws, trimmers, etc)

I am no expert and do not run a landscaping business. I am simply a consumer. That said, here is what I have experienced. I started off with whatever home depot sold. I ran this in my ryobi weed whacker. It did ok. I then bought a husky chain saw and continued to use the same fuel/oil mixture...

"SA" rated 10W30 makes Briggs Smoke?!?

Ahh, you did that too? Made me double and triple check that I put the right oil in first time I did it. Splash lubrication systems smoke like the dikins if you overfill them. Pulling the side (fill to here) plug and letting the excess dribble out fixed me right up. The latest recommendation...

    Lawn Tractor options

I would recommend a honda self propelled walk behind for that small a lot. They are very highly rated. A decent one can be had for 300 bucks and their fully decked out one is 500 or so. That lot is no where big enough for a lawn tractor.
