Oil with best anti-wear for Chevy 3.6 timing chain protection?

Good stuff, thanks guys. All of my previous rigs have died due to frame rot/rust, with solid engines and trans. This is the first newer truck I've had in a long while, so I want to keep it happy and healthy.

Oil with best anti-wear for Chevy 3.6 timing chain protection?

Interesting. I will definitely be keeping an eye on the level and making sure it's topped up. I have not noticed any burning up to this point, so that's good.

Oil with best anti-wear for Chevy 3.6 timing chain protection?

My truck uses Chevy's direct inject 3.6 with timing chains. There are plenty of stories over the internet of timing chain stretch on these engines. Most "experts" attribute that to too long OCIs and dirty oil. I like to keep my vehicles for forever, and a timing chain job is not something I...

is Pennzoil Platinum still the favorite?

It seems that Penzoil Plat is always a good price for a 5QT jug and on the shelf at my local Home Depot. There is literally always some home project going on at my house, so I just pick up a jug while I'm there. I used to read this site a ton and obsess over oil, but think much less about it...

2024 Buick Envista: Best oil for GM 1.2 LIH and Continental Belt In Oil compatibility.

Can't say ANY Buick, ever, other than the Grand National ever thrilled me. I'm surprised GM hasnt killed off the brand yet.

    Is this oil too old? Recs for a 2019 Subaru Outback, 2022 Lexus RX450h . . .

Motor oil doesn't go bad in a sealed container. Neither of those engines is particularly demanding on oil. I would use the proper weight in each vehicle without hesitation.

    GM Power Steering Fluid

Man you guys are tough. If I lived someplace I had to worry about my PS fluid freezing, I dont think I'd make it.

Chevy trans shudder issue - best fluid?

Update: Had the TSB performed this morning and picked the truck up. It's a night and day change for the better and not just eliminating the shudder but the overall shifting is much smoother. Time will tell if this proves to be a long term fix but for now, it appears the issue is under control...

Chevy trans shudder issue - best fluid?

A real point of aggravation is that there is no drain plug for the trans. On my honda van, which is also hard on trans fluid, I just drain the contents of the pan and refill every other oil change and that keeps the fluid fresh and happy. My plan for this is going to be an extraction pump to do...

Chevy trans shudder issue - best fluid?

Got an appointment tomorrow morning to have the trans flushed with GMs procedure and the blue label M1. Will report back.

Chevy trans shudder issue - best fluid?

No, I am not sure - I only know the applicable TSB references Dex VI as the fluid being swapped out, but that TSB and an accompanying older one cover a number of model years, and I really have no clear way of knowing what's in my trans right now.

Chevy trans shudder issue - best fluid?

Yea, all of these "innovations" are in the name of pushing greater fuel efficiency, but it's not working; at least for my V6 Colly. I get terrible gas mileage and the 8-sp regularly hunts for the right gear on the highway at 75-80mph in hilly terrain. The direct injected engine is very nice...

Chevy trans shudder issue - best fluid?

18 Chevy Colorado V6/8-sp trans. 29000 miles. Just developed the dreaded, well known shudder issue on light acceleration. There is a TSB out there to flush the trans with new Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP fluid; which allegedly corrects the issue in the torque converter clutch area if the wear...

Do any of the euro motor oils also carry dexos (1 gen 2) approval?

Correct, Dexos 2 is GMs spec for diesel engines. MY DI gasser V6 requires Dexos1, Gen 2. That terminology they picked is pretty stupid and easy to confuse though for sure.

Do any of the euro motor oils also carry dexos (1 gen 2) approval?

Just curious. I have an 07 328i BMW and an 18 Chevy Colorado V6, which id direct injected... Is there an oil that is appropriate for both?

Oh no, what happened while i was gone (castrol content...)

Well, that's not quite right. I started the thread because the old German Castrol is no longer on store shelves and I wondered what Castrol did to reconfigure their oil offerings, particularly in the euro space. The auto parts store I initially visited didnt carry the 0-40 euro formula or were...

By the way @mrlawnguy , good tip on FCP Euro, never heard of them before. Will evaluate with the next set of purchases.

Oh no, what happened while i was gone (castrol content...)

Well, what's ordered is ordered, and I have long been a supporter and user of ECS so I'm comfortable with using them to get the oil and filter delivered. I'm certain as long as it meets the BMW spec the engine will be fine, especially considering the low demanding service it will be subject to...
