Getting car values online - want VIN or plate#

2 family members are thinking about selling or trading their vehicles in the near future and I'd like to get ballpark values for them beforehand. Every source I think should be valid wants you to input the VIN or license plate number to either continue or get the number at the end. A Carvana...

    Nissan Frontier Hardbody Edition

Other than the wheels not sure what other Hardbody cues there are but they're trying. Payload isn't very good. Nissan trucks rusted badly BITD in Pa but guys sure did beat on them. https://www.nissanusa.com/vehicles/trucks/frontier/hardbody-edition.html

Historic cicada season coming for some of us. Yuck

Apparently the 17 year and 13 year cicadas are hatching this year together for the first time in 221 years and according to the maps in the article Illinois and Indiana will get both at the same time. Since they don't recognize state borders likely the bordering states to these two will get in...

    Toyota Crown Orca Edition?

Walked the Toyota lot while waiting for some recall work on daughter's CX-5 the other day. This CPO Crown stood out like a sore thumb. Apparently there might be a Crown Estate Wagon version coming?

Tesla becoming a generic word for an EV?

I've been spending some time with some young kids and realized to them every electric vehicle is a Tesla, likely because Tesla has been the only game in town in their lifetimes. Is this how kleenex and velcro and coke and other brands became the generic name for the product?

    Bronco Raptor at dealer

Stopped in the local Ford/Mazda dealer to schedule recall work on daughter's CX-5 and saw this burly Bronco on display. I don't know the specs of a Bronco Raptor but my brain can't process ANY Bronco being $100k. Everything on the lot had markdown tags.

Interesting read: Toyota's 1:6:90 rule about lithium

Toyota isn't all in to make EVs and this article explains why. This paragraph is to the point: Full article: https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/autos-hybrids/toyota-s-leaked-1-6-90-rule-reveals-why-it-s-not-wasting-lithium-on-evs/ar-BB1iOfAN?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=31aa90150cca4a19a5bfa482daeea659&ei=81

    Edmunds range tests the Cybertruck

If you've been waiting for someone a bit bigger and well known to test this EV here is Edmund's test. They did 60% highway/40% city. If you want to see how far it went skip to 4:45. Also at 1:25 are their results testing other Tesla vehicles. Maybe they weren't broken in yet when tested? ;)

How long til there are different prices of electricity at charging stations?

Impossible you say, electricity is electricity. Maybe not. In the 90s the electric company where we lived offered customers the opportunity to buy electricity that was more sustainably produced and of course it cost more. Surely they didn't think this up so maybe you remember it. A friend...

    Ford invents another tailgate variation.

This is a variation on the split tailgate on the Ram trucks. I don't have a pro/con comment since my GMC has the fold down step thing other than I wonder what the weight rating of this tailgate is. Fine for homeowners, maybe not for landscapers. Running a quad up ramps into the bed probably...

    TFLT tows with a Cybertruck

The Fast Lane Truck put up a YouTube video towing a decent size travel trailer with a Cybertruck. Interestingly it handled and towed just fine but of course the safe usable range is short at 100 miles. Andre had to fuss around the menus a bit but you'd expect that.

Cummins to recall 600,000 trucks for emissions cheating

Wow. No matter what you think about emissions standards Cummins was cheating the test. Wonder how many owners will quit the brand like VW owners did? https://apnews.com/article/united-states-cummins-doj-emissions-testing-5bf95ebbd255bcd9758edce5fad1205f

Questions for commercial pilots RE current events

In all of the media bloviating about parts falling off airplanes a couple of things are being talked about that have nothing to do with that and wondered if any of our commercial pilots would care to comment. Maybe the media has things all wrong. First is this thing about the cockpit voice...

Would you go out of your way for E0 gas?

My indy mech thinks I should try running E0 gas in the '02 Jeep, better for it, better mileage, run better. 2 places here sell it, both 20 minutes away and out of the way and it's at least 30cents/gallon more expensive. I'll try a tank at some point and see if the butt dyno measures a...

    Synthetic oil dries out seals.

This quote came from a respected long time member on another automotive forum I frequent. No use trying to clarify since it would result in an ugly dog pile for insinuating the esteemed member wrong. Some myths just won't die.

    People don't like 5 quart oil jugs....what?

Went Black Friday shopping at NAPA for a gas cap with a tether, some fool forgot to put it back on the Jeep and it flew away. Decided to pick up next OC since the sale prices on NAPA oil put it in range. Couldn't find any jugs of 10W-30 HM on the rack so grabbed a quart (takes 6) and went to the...
