    74 ironhead oil recommendation

I'm pretty sure they went to separate cases in 76 and primary had it's own vent after that.

    74 ironhead oil recommendation

Older Ironheads had a oil transfer valve which allowed primary pressure to vent into the crankcase, which in turn mixed the oils. That's why those bikes used the same oil in both. HD got rid of that valve in 76 i believe, and then primary and crankcase was actually separate. I'm pretty sure i'm...

    74 ironhead oil recommendation

Thanks for the advice and help guys. I do have a question regarding Valvoline VR1. I looked some oils up up and some of them, specially the racing type oils intended for cars which include VR1 50wt have friction modifiers in them. Since most of the older Ironheads are suppose to run same oil in...

    74 ironhead oil recommendation

Just picked up a 74 Ironhead. What would you classic Harley guys recommend for oil? I'm in WA so i was gonna go with straight 50wt since it doesn't get that hot. I guess the big question is should i stick with with single wt motor oil or go with 20W50. I also assume using full synthetic would be...

Full synthetic in diffs on a 99 Suburban

All i got to go off of is the build sheet, RPO codes are G80 which i guess makes it a limited slip and GT4 which is 3.73 ratio. I had a mechanic do the diffs for me about a year ago and he pulled the cover off the rear one. It looks like he used a paper gasket with sealant or just sealant when...

Full synthetic in diffs on a 99 Suburban

That's why i specified 99 Suburban. I'm aware a lot of manufactures have been using synthetic gear lube in differentials. Also aware that a lot of people switched to it without any issues. I guess Amsoil must be making this [censored] up to sell less oil.

Full synthetic in diffs on a 99 Suburban

There you go Pablo, straight from Amsoil.com [3] 1988-99 models Do not use synthetic lubricant in axles using RTV sealant. Synthetic lubricant will chemically attack RTV sealant. American Axle has only approved the use of Synthetic Lubricant 75W-90 GM part no. 12378261, as follows: a. All 8.6...

Full synthetic in diffs on a 99 Suburban

Is it a good idea? I read somewhere that you shouldn't do it because the additives in synthetic gear oil deteriorate the seals. Has anyone here used synthetic gear oil in an older GM truck?
