    Time to Dump or Repair?

If you like the car, and it is very good except for the parts that you can have repaired for max $4000, and then the car would be worth a minimum of $6000, and the car has virtually a 0 value as is, I would fix it. If only to then sell it and pocket the $2000 profit.

Carburetors - I think I've learned to like them

I actually have 2. my 65 mustang with a 1 bbl, my 64 Falcon Ranchero with a 4 bbl carb. I grew up with carbs, and really don't know much about fuel injection. But carbs I understand. As a matter of fact I for several years had my own auto shop, and I was known as the place to work on carbs...

using vinegar to flush cooling system

Right ripcord, there is no aluminum in this old beast. I think I will wait till tomorrow and back it out of the garage, drive it around the block, and drain and flush it out. Thermostat is already out.

using vinegar to flush cooling system

Ok, so I put a gallon of vinegar in my system, and ran it till it was warmed up fully. That was yesterday, so how long should I leave it in there before draining. I want the max cleaning. Should I run it again? If so how often, and for how long? This is in the 65 mustang

Husqvarna AWD with a Honda engine

was it working ok the last time you used it? Are you SURE the compression is ok? An intake valve tappet without enough clearance could make the backfiring through carb sound. Was any parts changed since it ran last? I once fought with an OHV briggs most of a day, wouldn't even try to run...

    65 200 6 mustang running kinda hot

OK, I found at least a large part of the problem. I am SO embarrassed. I had the thermostat in BACKWARDS. Wow of all the thermostats I have changed in my 50 years of working on cars, I have never done that before. I guess old age is creeping up on me faster than I thought. LOL. Actually I am...

    65 200 6 mustang running kinda hot

The cooling system, and everything else, is all as the factory made it. And it used to run perfectly cool under all conditions. Sure, I suppose a bigger radiator, or fan could probablyly make it better, but then it wouldn't be stock anymore. Can't see why it can't be made to work just like it...

    65 200 6 mustang running kinda hot

I have tried it without a thermostat, and runs the same temp, just takes a few minutes longer to get there. And yes I have checked the radiator temp with a digital meat thermometer, and it reads just like the dash gauge.

    65 200 6 mustang running kinda hot

Both. Does climb some when coming to an idle after running fast, but that is normal. Starting from cold, it warms to about 160+, therm opens, drops some, then over the next maybe 10 miles or so, at slow, or high speed,(60+). it will sloooowly climb to around 190/195. Generally holds there unless...

    65 200 6 mustang running kinda hot

Also, I forgot to mention that I also checked the timing and the vacuum advance, and all OK. This engine was rebuilt about 12 years ago, and has been immaculately cared for since, and it uses no oil, gets great gas mileage, and is driven around 1000 to 1500 miles a year, mostly long drives. This...

    65 200 6 mustang running kinda hot

As the title says my 65 mustang with the 200 ci 6 is running a little hot. Not so hot as to be hard on the engine, but hotter than it was, and should. I just checked the water temp in the radiator after a loing run, and it is 194 degrees. Not hot you say. But I have a 160 thermostat in it, and...

    Cost to paint house?

I no longer remember the figures the only time I had a 2 story house painted, BUT, a couple times I had a bid on painting a rental (about 900 square ft. ) I decided that for a couple thousand more I could have it vinyl sided, and that is what I did. Cost a little more, but no more painting, and...

    Oil Udder

Probably works ok, but what about the small diameter filters? Also, I, being the cheapskate that I am, would probably buy one if the price was 1/2 or less than it is.

Plumbing woes: laundry cleanout plugged again

Sand shot out?? That sounds like somewhere in the ground there is a pipe that is broke or somehow has a hole in it. If that is the case, just cleaning it out will result in only a very temporary fix.

I don't know, but they both make fine products. It may be different in different parts of the country

Permatex does make a full line of gasket sealers, several of which would work good for you.

    Baby praying mantis

I am not a person that likes bugs very much in general, but I think of praying mantis's as more of a small animal than A bug. I know they are bugs, Or I suppose insects actually, but I think they are the neatest ones. Like a small pet.

Vehicle sighting - 1964-1/2 Ford Mustang

I really like the wheels on that car. Does anyone know what they are? Hard to find much choice of wheels to fit the 4 bolt 6 cylinders.

Vehicle sighting - 1964-1/2 Ford Mustang

If it is a 64and 1/2 then it would have a generator. But I can see on the one picture that it has an alternator, so unless it was updated, it is probably a 65, and it would be a 200 C.I. I have a 65 with 200, and it is reasonable show quality. Got a silver award at a MCA show last year. IF, I...

    Costco Pressure Washer Carb

I am sure all those parts can be bought, but probably only from a Honda dealer, and the parts from a dealer probably cost as much or more than a whole eBay carb. I am guessing.
