Recommend an oil for a 2005 Xterra (VQ40DE)

I went with Mobil 1 0W-40 because AAP was running a special-5 quarts and an M1 filter for $32 (and the local AZs didn't have the German Castrol). How long should I run this stuff to start? Obviously a UOA will be necessary to know for sure how long it's good for, but what would be a good...

    Rotella T5, 10w30......not a lot of chatter....???

I ran the dino Rotella T 10W-30 in a number of Jeeps (4.0 I6) and they loved it. Most 4.0s have ticking lifters, but Rotella quieted mine down nicely. With that said, it rarely gets below zero where I live (single digit lows are about as cold as it gets). I probably wouldn't run it in a...

    Wix vs. Mobil 1

I just saw the one kind of Mobil filters. I didn't look too closely, though-the only way I'd ever buy one is part of a promo like this one. 5 quarts of M1 and an M1 filter for $32, if anyone is interested. I think the promotion is good for a few more weeks.

    Wix vs. Mobil 1

All things being equal, would you prefer a Wix oil filter or a Mobil 1 filter? Normally I use Wix, but Advance Auto Parts was running a pretty good special on Mobil 1 oil and filters, so now I have both. The vehicle in question is a 2005 Nissan Xterra (VQ40DE) and I will be running Mobil 1...

Recommend an oil for a 2005 Xterra (VQ40DE)

Just so I'm clear-is the German Castrol just 0W-30 Castrol Syntec?

Recommend an oil for a 2005 Xterra (VQ40DE)

The manual specifies 5W-30, 10W-30 or 10W-40 depending on climate. It rarely gets into the single digits where I live-normal winter lows are in the teens. I was hoping to get some input on a "thick" 30 weight or 40 weight that produces good results in Nissan VQ motors.

Recommend an oil for a 2005 Xterra (VQ40DE)

Hello all, I just acquired a 2005 Nissan Xterra with 66,000 miles. I'll be doing my first oil change within the next week or so and could use a recommendation for what oil to use. I've read that the VQ40DE tends to like a "thicker" 30 weight oil or even a 40 weight. I'm considering a 40 weight...
