TRW labeled struts - mfg by KYB

Bought a set of "TRW" struts for a Saturn and while the stick-on labels say TRW, stamped into the tube is the letters KYB so I assume that is the actual manufacturer. I know there's a lot of cross-pollination in the parts biz these days but this was one I was not aware of.

    Quicksilver 2cycle color - black?

I got a good deal on a gallon of Quicksilver syn but was surprised the stuff is black as coal, color-wise looks like 20,000 mile used 4-stroke oil LOL. But the seal was intact so I'm thinking I got factory fill here.

    Old 5hp Briggs fix/improvement - Magnetron

I've had a lot of problems the last year with my old (70s) Troy-Bilt tiller. Hard starting and stalling when hot. A lot of time wasted on carburetor rebuilds and cleaning, it appears. Installed the pointless ignition system (Magnetron) which is easy and 25 bucks and it runs like it did 30 years...

HF gen set dropped exh valve

My neighbor gave me a non-running HF 4000W gen set (212 cc Chinese motor). After cleaning the carb without success, I put on a new 11 dollar (!) carb and it ran fine. Pulled two 1500 watt heaters as a test load with no problem. For about 15 minutes .... and then it dropped an exh valve...

Teardown report FIAP pressure washer pump

The FIAP pump on my 5hp Generac washer is informally referred to as the "one season wonder" in the trade. Mine is about 10 yrs old and has run an estimated 100 total hours. Unfortunately due to a cracked housing due to frozen water (should have trained my relative more thoroughly) its life has...

Recommend for break-in - vintage Chevy 6 new build

67 Chevy 250 six. (Ok the good part is it's in a survivor Camaro convert). New +.030 pistons, rings, and bearings, new oil pump and fully rebuilt head. Figure I'll run 500 miles or so and change oil + filt unless any better ideas.

what is the interchange specification for the pump lube oil? (not the gas engine, the water pump) (Troy-Bilt/Generac 2450 psi/2.5 gpm) THANKS!

    Infrequently used equipment storage

What makes more sense for equipment like a gen set and roto-tiller that are used very infrequently (2 or 3 times/12 mo period): run dry on fuel and store or store with fresh fuel and StaBil additive I have had problems with both of these over the years, they are both B&S 5hp flatheads.

Could we discuss other brands please.......

I think the biggest question for US BITOG members is availability and price. GC is interesting because you can buy it for 5 bucks a quart at the local AZ, sometimes even cheaper, and it has the "stealth" factor in that 99.9% of the customers don't have a clue that it's something special...

    Diversity award

Saturn Vue, Honda V6 engine, Ford oil (MC5W20). Seems to be a good matchup

Used oil in my gas tank?

Is there any downside to taking used motor oil, filtering it thru an oil filter, and adding to a gas engine, perhaps at 1qt per 20 gallons (80:1) ratio?

    Logistics questions

Why is GC made in Germany? Access to special process, additives, ??? Why does Castrol package & import GC for North America since it is a relatively low usage grade (0W30)and they also have the Grp III USA mfg yellow label stuff available and don't even acknowledge that the products are different?

GC worked its magic, now what?

I'm thinking GC may be the low cost ARX? Our 115,000 mile Saturn 1.9 was starting to use oil (got to approx 1000 mi/qt, no external leaks). The root cause is usually quoted as stuck ring pack and/or bad valve seals. A 4000 mile run on GC then had a total consumption of approx 1.5 pints...

    Motorcraft Oils back at W-M?

Looks like a re-stocking not leftovers. 5W20, 5W30, 10W30 all SM grade "semi-syn" product on the shelves in the "regular" section (not closeouts) about 30 cents/qt more than before ($1.80/qt)

"Not for sale outside the Americas"

Realizing the label is in English and Spanish but not German and French.....does anybody know why this is stipulated on the GC bottle?
